NEW CUMBERLAND — The preliminary hearing for the individual accused in a suspected murder in Weirton last week has been continued, following a filing in Hancock County Magistrate Court Tuesday.

A preliminary hearing had been scheduled for Wednesday morning in magistrate court for Mark E. Dennis, 71, of Weirton, who faces a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Linda Dennis, his wife, on April 16.

A new hearing date wasn’t immediately available.

According to a report from Weirton Police, officers were called to 109 Deya St. at approximately 1 p.m. April 16 in reference to a disturbance. Officers entered the home, making contact with Mark Dennis and finding the body of Linda Dennis on the floor.

Mark Dennis was taken into custody, and officers noted no one else was at the residence.

According to the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Mark Dennis is being held at the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail with no bond.
