Among those coaching moves were moving Sarah-Marie Young from assistant boys track coach to head boys track coach at Weir High School, with Steve McConnachie assigned as head boys track coach at Oak Glen High, Ashley Tharp as head girls track coach at Oak Glen, Eric Hayden as head baseball coach at Oak Glen, Sherrie Garner as head softball coach at Oak Glen, Jeff Lewis as head girls track coach at Weir, David Cowden as head baseball coach at Weir, John Leary as head softball coach at Weir, and Francesca Capaldi as head boys tennis coach at Weir.

Numerous assistant coaches and unpaid volunteers for the various sports also were approved Tuesday for the athletic staffs at both high schools.

In other personnel moves approved Tuesday, Ashlee J. Murphy, Andrea L. Lamone, and Chasely N. Gardner were assigned as substitute aides, while Tierra R. Potts will be a substitute custodian; Cody Hixenbaugh will transfer from a Custodian II position for both Weir Middle and Weir High, to the same position at only Weir Middle, effective Jan. 20; and Ricky N. Coen will move from countywide substitute custodian to Custodian II for the Transportation Department and New Manchester Elementary, effective Oct. 17.

Beverly Dawson, Secretary III in the Special Education Department, was granted an extension of an unpaid leave of absence, from Oct. 1 to Oct. 9, for medical reasons; Cassandra Lockerbie, speech-language pathologist, was approved for an unpaid leave from Jan. 5 to March 1; Hailey Deagel has resigned as a countywide substitute teacher, effective immediately; while Stephanie Walker has been assigned as a substitute teacher, effective Oct. 16.

In other business, the board declared several pieces of equipment from the John D. Rockefeller IV Career Center as surplus items, approved bids for eight surplus school buses, with six going to Six Recycling for $500 each, and the other two going to Christopher Lloyd for $1,750 each.

A list of “Short-Day Students” – 66 from Weir High and seven from Oak Glen High – also was approved for the first semester of the current school year.
