Arrests made in copper theft
CHESTER – Two area residents have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of copper and other materials.
James Arthur Chappell, 40, of Chester, and Eric Thomas Boyer, 56, of Burgettstown were taken into custody Monday following the execution of a search warrant at 60 Doberman Drive, Chester.
Chappell has been charged with bringing stolen property into the state and breaking and entering, while Boyer faces charges of bringing stolen property into the state, breaking and entering, and fugitive from justice.
Both currently are being held in the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail, with Chappell on a $50,500 bond, and Boyer on a $50,000 bond, according to the jail’s website.
The charges are connected to a joint investigation between the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police following reports by Industrial Development Advantage LLC of multiple thefts of copper wire and other items valued at more than $50,000.
The search of the Doberman Drive location resulted in the seizure of what officials described as “a large quantity of copper wire, miscellaneous tools, and a vehicle.”
Additional charges are pending against the two in Pennsylvania.
