John Cassels
John H. Cassels, 70, of Dillonvale, OH, passed away suddenly Monday January 5, 2015, in East Ohio Regional Hospital ER in Martins Ferry, OH.
John was born February 16, 1944, in Dillonvale, son of Gladys E. (Stewart) Cassels, who survives, and the late Howard Cassels.
He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and Case Farms working as a truck driver.
John was Baptist by faith and was a member of the Jefferson Farm Bureau. He served his country honorably during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his father Howard, who passed in 1970, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Oxley Cassels, in 1990, and by his brother, Louis in 2014.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley J. (Mosser) Cassels, whom he married on Aug. 8, 1998; his six children, Deanna (Jack) Wells of Dillonvale, Tonya Oxley of Bellaire, OH, Debbie Cassels of Adena, OH, Johnny Cassels of Wintersville, OH, Frankie Cassels of Smithfield, OH and Joe (Rachel) Carothers of Delaware, OH; his brothers and sisters, Linda (Edmond) Jackson of Ellsworth, PA., James Cassels of Dillonvale, Pauline (Bruce) Oiler of Wintersville, Clyde (Betty) Cassels of Dillonvale, Frank Cassels of Tiltonsville, OH, Terry (Tina) Cassels of Dillonvale, Debbie (Bob) Myler of Toronto, OH, and Paul Cassels of Dillonvale; six grandsons, two granddaughters, two great-grandsons, two great- granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday January 8, 2015, from 2-6 p.m., at the J.E. Foster Funeral Homes, Inc., 107 Hill St. in Smithfield.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Wayne officiating. Burial will follow in Northern Cemetery in Smithfield, OH.
Military graveside honors will be provided by the Piney Fork, Smithfield and Dillonvale American Legion Posts.
