Wilma Wilson
Wilma Jean (Reynolds) Wilson of New Cumberland, West Virginia, died peacefully on July 10, 2019 at Weirton Geriatric Center where she had been a resident since 2017.
Wilma Jean was born on February 4, 1928 in Toronto, Ohio, the daughter of the late Herbert Otis Reynolds and Mary Alice (Locke) Reynolds. She spent her childhood in Zalia, West Virginia, later moving to New Cumberland. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Anita LaRocca and Marion Snyder.
Wilma Jean married James William Wilson in 1947, and they remained happily married until James pre-deceased her in January of 2007. Together, they raised seven children: Barbara (Robert) Brauch of Loudon, TN; Elizabeth “Betsy” (James) Wells of New Cumberland; Joan Wilson (Dennis Hogan) of Hingham, MA; Melanie Wilson of New Cumberland; Gloria Wilson of Loveland, OH; James Wilson of Clarksburg; and Christopher (Julie) Wilson of Weirton, who survive her. She is also survived by five granddaughters, two grandsons and one great- grandson.
Wilma Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and doting on her grandchildren. She was active member in Trinity United Methodist Church. She was also an accomplished seamstress who put her skills to good use sewing lovely clothing for her five young daughters. She will be remembered as a warm, loving and generous presence with a good sense of humor.
Visitation will be held at Nixon Funeral Home, 900 Ridge Avenue, New Cumberland, WV 26047 on Friday, July 19, 2019, from noom until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m.
Interment will follow at New Cumberland Cemetery.
