Anthony Guida
Anthony J. Guida, 81, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2020 with his wife Shirley J. Guida at his side following an extended illness.
Tony was born on May 6, 1939 in Steubenville, Ohio. Tony and Shirley, high school sweethearts, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past September.
Tony’s life was a living example of the Bible verse 1 Timothy 4:12 – “set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” Together, Tony and Shirley have modeled to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to live a full life with love, integrity, favor, compassion, loyalty and generosity to others. While Tony will be sorely missed by family and friends, he leaves a legacy that will continue for generations.
In addition to his wife Shirley, Tony is survived by his three sons Anthony J. Guida Jr. (Carol), of San Juan Capistrano, CA, John P. Guida (Lisa), of Steubenville, Dewey J. Guida (Sherie), of Jacksonville, FL, his grandsons Anthony J. Guida III (Olivia), Nicholas L. Guida (Jackie Hishmeh), Christian T. Guida (Jerica), Joshua C. Guida, Dewey J. Guida, Jr., his two great granddaughters, Shiloh Joy and Lily James Guida, John’s stepdaughter Krista Mullin (Erik), their two boys Mason and Ty, his brother Dewey J. Guida, Jr. (Karen), and many nieces and nephews.
His parents Dewey Joseph Guida, Sr. and Rose Marie (Baio) Guida, sister Constance Griffo, brother- in-law Peter (“Kang”) Griffo, brother James J. (“J.J.”) Guida, and sister-in-law Rita Guida predeceased him.
Tony was born in Steubenville, Ohio on May 5, 1939, and graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central high school in 1957. He married Shirley in 1960 at the age of 21 and raised his family in Steubenville. After serving in the U.S. Army Reserves and working in several jobs, Tony joined the Steubenville Fire Department, where he served for 17 years. In the early 1970’s Tony joined his brother J.J. in real estate sales in Weirton and in 1980 he launched Guida Realty in Steubenville, where he was later joined by his son John. Tony and his brothers J.J. and Dewey worked well together and became well-respected businessmen and land developers for decades in the Steubenville-Weirton area. Tony also served on the boards of many organizations, including Chairman of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, President of the Steubenville Board of Realtors (where he was Realtor Associate and Broker of the Year), and Chairman of the Tri-State Multi List.
Tony will always be remembered as a devoted, caring and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Because of his strong paternal instincts, many family and friends considered Tony their second father. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, play golf at the Steubenville Country Club, enjoy food and wine, and work on real estate development, sales and appraisals. He also was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, holding season tickets for over 40 years. In fact, Tony, his brothers J.J. and Dewey, were eyewitnesses to the “Immaculate Reception,” and there was no question in Tony’s mind that Franco Harris caught that ball before it hit the ground!
Visitation will be Friday from 3-6 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd, Steubenville, OH 43952. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be held noon Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Steubenville, where Tony was a faithful member. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of donations, his family suggests that contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
