KATHERINE “KATIE” GRANTONIC
Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Katherine “Katie” M. (Rozsa) Grantonic, 88, of Mingo Jct. went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
Katie truly lived what she believed as a devout Catholic by faith and was a wonderful role-model. Her faith in God and her family meant everything to her, and she had an amazing gift of making everyone feel so deeply loved. Katie was a down-to-earth, genuine person who was always happy and graced everyone with her sweet smile as well as her infectious laugh and only focused on the good in people. Katie lived humbly, forgave easily, spoke kindly of others and always put others’ needs before herself even to the very end of her life just like the faithful servant leader that she was.
Our mom lived by this biblical truth and leaves this legacy, “Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you” Ephesians 4:32
Katie, who came from a large and loving Hungarian family, grew up on a working farm and was not afraid of hard work. Whatever Katie did, whether it was working on the farm or our home; taking care of her six children with amazing patience; gardening; or baking her special homemade pies for church events; she worked (as instructed in Colossians 3:23) with her whole heart as though she were working for the Lord rather than for people — and without complaint!
For decades, Katie thoroughly enjoyed growing all kinds of vegetables from seed in her greenhouse and planting a huge garden and canning the harvest well into her 70’s. She was also passionate about planting beautiful flowers around her home.
Katie was an excellent cook (even her flops were good) and was well known for her wonderful home- made pies and desserts. Even though mom could make all kinds of delicious foods, she would be content eating chicken or her homemade chicken noodle soup with her very own homemade noodles every single day if she could.
Katie was the daughter of the late Gabor and Helen (Vincze) Rozsa and the youngest of 11 children. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mingo Jct.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three infant daughters, Sharon, Cheryl, and Helen; one son, Ken; two brothers, Alex and Gabriel (Gabe) Rozsa; six sisters, Helen Butcher, Anna Kuruc, Mary Nemeth, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Kuruc, Frances (Fran) Piccolomini, and Margaret (Margie) Fodor.
Katie will be deeply missed by her husband, Edward J. Grantonic, whom she shared 66 years of marriage, as well as her five adult children; Karen (Mike) Menzel from Mingo Jct. OH, Edward T. (Karen) Grantonic from Huber Heights, OH, Bob Grantonic from Bloomingdale, John Grantonic from Bloomingdale, Carol Jean (David Shawn) Mace from Gnadenhutten, OH; eight grandchildren, Kristen (Leonard) Gagliardi, Marissa Menzel, Ryan Grantonic, David (Zoee) Grantonic, Mary Beth (Chris) Hess, Amy Grantonic, Kevin and Kari Mace; three great grandchildren, Aidan and Isaac Grantonic, and Lily Hess; brother, Joe Rozsa; and sister, Barbara (John) Grantonic, along with many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited for visitation at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 204 St. Clair Ave. Mingo Jct. on Monday from noon until the time of mass at 2:00 pm , with Fr. Jim Dunfee as celebrant. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
