BARBARA MAYERS

Barbara June (Curry) Mayers, 93 of Steubenville, OH, passed away June 25, 2025.
She was born in her grandmother’s home on Logan St., in Steubenville, on Sept. 21, 1931, to the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Farkas) Curry. In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Mayers and her furry cat, B.T.
She was raised Catholic in faith, attended St. Peter’s School and was a 1950 graduate of Steubenville Big Red High School.
She embraced adventure and in the mid 1960’s introduced the new soft drink “Fresca” from the local Coca-Cola Co. as the parka wearing “Fresca Girl” offering free samples to the Steubenville grocery store customers. She modeled for Steubenville Art Students, enjoyed selling Avon door to door and redeemed customers Top Value Stamps at the redemption centers.
She fulfilled her life with travel to Europe, Alaska, Las Vegas, California and snow birding to Florida with her husband Dave. Whether she was attending the summer concerts in Steubenville or Toronto, going to the local theater matinees, Barb embraced many genres of music and films.
Her greatest pleasure and joy were cherishing time with her close-knit family, especially going on winery tours filled with much laughter and family inside jokes. Up to the time of her death, Barbara lived independently by reading no less than 3 library books a week, watching her game shows (always solving Wheel of Fortune puzzles before anyone) TCM movies and working crossword puzzles.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Michelle (Jeff) Benton of New Alexandria, OH, Patricia (Cliff) Scheel of Toronto, OH; grandchildren, Brad Lease, Courtney (Daniel) Blood, Josh (Christianne) Benton, Bobby (Anica) Lease and Elizabeth (Angelo) Marsili; great-grand children, Gunnar and Denali Blood, Jacob Benton, Lorenzo, Leonardo and Mateo Marsili, Bethany Weaver, Paige, Rayne, Kennedy, Brae, Ramona and Amira Lease; great-great grandchild, Ellie Weaver; sisters, Nancy Raymond of Aberdeen, MD, and Lynnda (Chuck) Bizzari of Cadiz, OH.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1 from 10 am until the time of Barbara’s service at 12 noon at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Rev. Jimm Woods will officiate, and burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Steubenville.
Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff of Valley Hospice for the kind, comforting care given to their loved one with a special thank you to their angels Emily, Amy, LaDonna, Sara, Melanie and Brittney. www.jefosterfh.com
