November is National Hospice Month

To the Editor, The concept of hospice started in Europe in the 11th century. Hospices were originally a place of hospitality for the sick, wounded or dying and even travelers or pilgrims on a journey. It wasn’t until 1967, when Dr. Cicely Saunders established the first hospice in the United States. Patients were treated in the hospital, nursing home or their own homes just as they are today. To the Editor, What will happen if socialism ultimately prevails here in the United States? Some say we’re there already. But not quite. For all those who’ve swallowed the promises of peace and prosperity, qualities supposedly inherent in socialism, a brief glance at history is in order. Wreaths coming to Paris Cemetery

To the Editor, Noon on Dec. 14 will mark the first year of Paris Cemetery’s participation in the Wreaths Across America’s annual campaign as they join in remembering the fallen, honoring those who serve and teaching the values of freedom. The original laying of the wreaths began by an evergreen nursery in Maine owned by the Worcester family, who donated and led volunteers to Arlington National Cemetery where they laid 5,000 balsam beribboned wreaths on the old section of forgotten veteran graves.
