Thankful to those of you who read my column

So this week, I am including in this little corner of the paper … my little section of the world, a photograph.

Not the best picture, by any means. But still, a moment captured of the three people who mean the very most to me.

They are my reason for saying what I say.

They are the explanation behind everything I do.

They are my purpose for living.

At the very least, they are my everything.

And, once every couple of years, we have our picture taken together.

Our family picture, just the four of us. The way it has always been.

I only show you this because I feel as if I have to.

You see, each week, you take a few moments out of your weekend and read this part of the paper.

You choose my column to be a part of your Sunday.

And you certainly don’t have to. It isn’t as if you are getting anything in return.

There isn’t a prize at the end of the column like there is in the bottom of a Cracker Jack box.

And yet, you do, and some of you do even more than that.

And since I speak about them all the time, I figured I would show you who I am referring to when I speak about my Noah.

My Dylan.

My Caleb.

My best friends.

We have had a pretty good life together.

We never fought or argued. Somehow, we made it through the teenage years and came out on the other side. And this week, I get to spend four great days with.

As I write this, it is Friday. Our Christmas Eve. Snow is falling outside the window.

Much different than it was on Dec. 24. I believe snow and Christmas Even go hand-in-hand.

Then of course, on Saturday, we will have breakfast together at my house, exchange gifts and go to my mom’s for dinner and games.

And no, I will not bore you with any additional details about our December holiday in February.

I have taken up more than enough of your time hearing about that, but I would like to take a minute and thank a couple of people who have been more than generous to me during the past week.

I would like to tell whomever dropped off a Valentine’s Day cake for me and left it at the front desk, that I was amazed.

I was deeply touched. And I truly thank you.

This person obviously read my column which mentioned how my grandma always made sure I had that heart-shaped cake every Feb. 14.

The inscription on the tag read “From Grandma Shirley and a fan.”

That made me cry.

I even text my mother, and she cried.

You will never know how special that moment was for me, and how close I felt to my grandma again after all of these years.

I thank you for that.

I need to thank a couple of other people who generously, generously gave me a Christmas card and wished my family a Merry Christmas in February; who helped with a gift for my children, writing that they hope I receive my “miracle.”

I also need to thank the woman who brought over a few of her homemade sweets to put toward our Christmas celebration.

I mean, who does things like this? Who? And how do you even begin to thank them?

I always heard angels walk among us. I guess I believed they were the kind that was unseen.

But I think there are ones that can be seen, too. Miracles. Miracles I wanted to share with you because their gestures truly touched my heart in a way that I could never explain with mere words.

I was in no way looking for a handout. I honestly feel bad taking from someone.

Nor was I seeking sympathy from anybody.

Every single person struggles now and then.

I simply wasn’t planning on Christmas until March or April.

Springing it on me with one week’s notice isn’t possible in my world. So, yes, I needed that miracle.

God did give me my miracles in many different ways.

So, I thank him. And I thank all of you.

I thank you for allowing me to continue to use this little part of the paper to talk about my life, my boys and what is truly important to me.

I’m glad I got to use this little corner of the world today to mention those of you who thought enough of me and my family to show you care as we prepare to celebrate our Christmas together.

Once again, I got to talk about what is important to me today — you. I thank you.
