Steubenville wins 17th contest

STEUBENVILLE — A strong showing from Caesen Sutton on the mound lifted the Steubenville baseball team to a 7-3 victory over Meadowbrook on Wednesday.

Sutton pitched 6 2/3 innings for the victory, walking four and striking out three. Dylan Cunningham recorded the final two outs, with one strikeout.

Offensively, Clayton Criss led with two singles, a double and two RBIs. Carlo Biasi delivered a single and a pair of RBIs. Quinn McCoy singled and doubled, while Ethan Duggan and Luke Zorne each produces a single and an RBI.

Big Red (17-6) travels to Cambridge on Friday.

BELLAIRE — George Ash’s big day at the plate and on the mound paced the Edison baseball team to a 14-4, six-inning victory over Bellaire on Wednesday.

Ash pitched the first innings for the victory. He allowed four unearned runs on four hits, one walk and struck out five. At the dish, he produced a single, three doubles and an RBI.

Isaac Schmitz tossed the final three frames, with three strikeouts and no free passes. Brennan Scott and Riley Watson each had a single, double and one RBI. Alec McBane singled twice and drove home a run. Conrad Gump doubled and drove home three.

Edison, the second seed in the upcoming Division III tournament, hosts No. 16 Newcomerstown on Saturday.

TORONTO — The Toronto baseball team gained momentum before the Division IV tournament starts this weekend, defeating Canfield 12-2 on Wednesday.

Nate Karaffa picked up the complete-game victory, walking three and striking out eight. Lucas Gulczynski led the offense with a single, double and two RBIs. Nick Sninchak had a single and three RBIs. Kobe Herrick produced a single and a pair of RBIs. Tristan Thomas and Brendan Matyas had two singles each.

Unless there’s a makeup game in-between, Toronto, the No. 2 seed, will host No. 15 Beallsville on Saturday.
