Madonna boys fall at Clay-Battelle? 

BLACKSVILLE — The Madonna boys baskeball team dropped a narrow 65-64 decision in overtime on the road at Clay-Battelle on Monday.

The Blue Dons efforts were led by 20 points from Anthony Mascio and 19 points from Luca Muzzi, while Reed Wilharm knocked down five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points.

Madonna rallied back from a halftime deficit to force OT before the Cee-Bees had a 7-6 advantage in the extra time.

Senior day win for Big Red

STEUBENVILLE — An efficient day from the inside and the foul line led Big Red to a senior day win over visiting Cambridge Saturday inside the Crimson Center, 58-49.

Big Red shot 62 percent from two-point range and 68 percent from the line in the win.

Santino Haney led the way with 26 points and nine rebounds, while Jace Kernahan tallied 16 points and seven boards and Tre Wiggins netted 12.

Brooke tops Madonna

WELLSBURG — Brooke pulled away from the visiting Blue Dons Saturday for a 30-point victory, 58-88.

Peyton Toepfer tied for the team-high with Garrett Milam, both scoring 18 points. Toepfer also finished with six rebounds and six assists.

Leyton Toepfer scored 15 points and dished five assists. Nate Kimball recorded 14 points, seven rebounds and five blocks in the win.

Anthony Mascio led the Blue Dons with 22 points.

River tops Big Red girls

HANNIBAL — River High wrapped up regular season play Saturday at the R.L. Potts gym with a 52-48 win over Steubenville.

Nylah McShan led Big Red with 22 points.

Davis leads OG wrestling

ST. MARYS — Two dozen OVAC wrestlers qualified for the West Virginia Class A/AA state wrestling tournament Saturday by placing in the top four of their respective weight classes at the Region I Tournament at St. Mary’s High School.

Fairmont Senior won the team title with 254 points, just four ahead of runner up Oak Glen.

The Golden Bears advanced an Ohio Valley-leading 11 individuals to Huntington in two weeks — Logan Davis (120) winning a championship. OG also had four second-place finishers, a like number of thirds and two fourths.

Davis, a senior and three-time state placer, won a state championship last winter. He is a perfect 54-0 this season.

Placing second were junior Hayden Lamb (132), senior Michael Heath (157), junior Greg Sauers (190) and sophomore Noah Schmidt (285).

Weir’s Shawn Young (144) was a runner up.

The Red Riders also have three alternates.

Brooke wrestlers advance

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — After surviving a day delay due to inclement weather, OVAC schools qualified 45 individuals.

University won the team title with 257 points.

Wheeling Park finished second with 176.5, and John Marshall was third with 151.5.

Brooke’s Tyler Wise was the winner at 215.

Also for Brooke, Joey Rea (106) was runner-up, Landon Burdine (126) finished fourth, and Garrett Moore (165) finished third.
