Bowers scores five, Big Red boys roll at East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL — Cole Bowers scored five goals to lead the Big Red boys soccer team to a 7-1 victory at East Liverpool on Thursday evening.

Steubenville, which improved to 3-0 on the season with the win, also got a goal each from Landon Bowers and Thomas Stanchfield.

Both Bowers brothers, Chase Beall, Nate Chipps and Gabe Martin each had an assist.

JJ Lamantia had five saves and Luca Holt one in goal.

Big Red is on the road at St. Clairsville next Thursday.

Central blanks Brooke

WELLSBURG — The Catholic Central boys soccer team shut out Brooke, 4-0, on the road on Thursday.

Santi Descalzo had two goals and Malachy O’Neil and Sean Inverso also scored, while Ben Walsh and Xavier Lee had an assist. Joseph Vranish made eight saves in goal.

Indian Creek bounces

WINTERSVILLE — Indian Creek’s volleyball team got back into the win column with a five set win over Brooke on Thursday.

Creek won the first, third and fifth sets.

Cara Vandeborne tallied 25 kills, four blocks and three aces, while Gabby Taylor had 35 assists, two aces and a kill, Riley Sadler had eight kills, an ace and an assist, Meghan Paoloemilio had nine assists and Emma Westfall finished with nine kills and five blocks.

Big Red tops Edison

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red volleyball team made it back-to-back wins on Thursday, topping visiting Edison in three sets, 25-12, 22-25, 25-19, 25-7.

Edison’s Gracie Dray tallied seven kills, five points and two blocks, Aliya Glover had six kills and four blocks, Dara Collopy had six points and five aces and Sophia Henderson had 29 assists and four blocks.

Weir golf wins

BERGHOLZ — The Weir High golf team topped Edison on Wednesday, 163-171.

Evan Kaczmarek led the Red Riders with a 38, while Isaiah Smith and Guy Meneely had 40 each and Justin Kczmarek shot a 45.

Edison got a 41 from Xander Haught, a 43 each from Isaiah Filburn and Jon Whitlatch and a 44 from Luke Ferralli.

Edison drops close game

NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Edison girls soccer team dropped a close 3-2 decision on the road at Magnolia on Wednesday.

Alison Kireta and Riley Conkle each had a goal. Kendall Adams made 10 saves in net.
