Ohio playoff field is set

Big Red gets a bye, three local teams to host in first round

The Ohio High School Athletic Association officially announced the final football computer ratings and regional standings and made official the playoff qualifiers and matchups on Sunday.

The top 12 in each region made the playoffs this season, with the top four getting a first round bye and the top eight a home game.

Five local teams qualified for the playoffs this season — Big Red (Division III, Region 11), Catholic Central (Division VII, Region 27), Indian Creek (Division IV, Region 15), Edison (Division V, Region 17) and Toronto (Division VI, Region 23).

Big Red’s seven game win streak to end the regular season propelled it into the No. 3 spot in Division III, Region 11 and earned Steubenville (7-2) a first-round bye. Big Red will host a second-round game on Nov. 7.

Catholic Central (6-4), with Saturday night’s victory, finished sixth in Divison VII, Region 27 and will host No. 11 seed Danville (5-5) Friday night at Harding Stadium in the first round.

Indian Creek’s 9-1 regular season earned it the No. 6 seed in Division IV, Region 15 and the Redskins are set to hot No. 11 Johnstown (7-3) on Friday at Kettlewell Stadium.

Edison (6-4) finished 10th in Division V, Region 17 and will head on the road to open the playoffs traveling to No. 7 New Franklin Manchester (7-3).

Toronto (9-1) earned the No. 6 seed in Division VI, Region 23 and will open the playoffs Friday at Clarke Hinkle Stadium hosting No. 11 seed Columbus Grandview Heights (7-3).

All playoff games start at 7 p.m.
