Oak Glen makes playoffs, will travel to Bluefield

Big Red set to travel to Newark Licking Valley in the regional semifinals on Friday night

The playoff fields in West Virginia became official on Sunday and Oak Glen made the cut.

The Golden Bears. who had their idle week and had to watch Friday night hoping they would hang on to one of the top 16 spots, indeed did.

Oak Glen, which finished 7-3 in the first season under TJ Miller, officially finished at No. 15 in Class AA to make the field.

They will travel in the opening round, making a nearly five-hour trip to test No. 2 seed Bluefield (8-2).

Oak Glen is in the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season.

As the road team. the Golden Bears selected Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. for the opening kick.

The game will be played at Mitchell Stadium in Mercer County.

The winner of Saturdays game will advance to play the winner of No. 7 Midland Trail (9-1) and N0. 10 Petersburg (7-3). Those team play on Friday night.

Oak Glen is only local team to make the playoffs in West Virginia.

OHIO

On the Ohio side of things, one local team remains as Steubenville Big Red has advanced to the Division III, Region 11 semifinals.

Big Red (8-2), the No. 3 seed, will travel to take on No. 2 seed Newark Licking Valley (11-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday night.

The winner of that game will advance to battle the winner of No. 4 Dresden Tri-Valley (9-2) and No. 1 Columbus Bishop Watterson (10-0) in the regional championship.
