Brooke bounces back for a sweep of Indian Creek

WINTERSVILLE — After defeating the Redskins last week at home, the Brooke boys basketball team went on the road and topped Creek 50-42 in a makeup game Wednesday night to earn the season sweep.

The Bruins, who had their five-game win streak snapped at East Liverpool on Tuesday, bounced right back with the victory and improved to 7-3.

Both teams got off to a fast start as Brooke led 21-18 after one. The pace slowed after that, but the Bruins stayed in front.

Grant Yost tallied 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the way.

Andrew Murdock, who is the second leading scorer in OVAC Class 5A behind Big Red’s Santino Haney, netted 11 points and two steals. Crosby Morris, also in the top 10 of the class in scoring, tallied 10 points and six boards.

For Creek (2-11) Nishon White, who is the second leading scoring in OVAC Class 4A, netted 11 points.

Brooke continues a swing of five of six on the road with a trip to Beaver Local on Friday, while Indian Creek goes to East Liverpool to battle the Potters on Friday night.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Red Knights top Bulldogs

TORONTO — The Toronto girls basketball team topped vsiting Bridgeport on Wednesday, 50-39, for a season sweep of the Bulldogs.

Jayna Reeves led Toronto (5-10) with 21 points, while Josey Dickinson had 12 and Lily Sapp 10.

The Red Knights host Buckeye Local tonight in search of another season sweep.
