Big Red baseball rolls past the Potters
STEUBENVILLE — Noah Kokiko took care of matters on the mound, while the Big Red baseball team’s bats erupted for 12 hits plating 14 runs against East Liverpool
Kokiko pitched a one-hitter striking out eight, and Big Red tallied 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 14-0 victory against the Potters via the run rule in four-and-a-half innings Thursday evening up at the Crimson Complex.
“We hit the ball well,” first-year Big Red (10-4) head coach Justin Banks said. “we had some solid barrels which was nice to see.”
Kokiko recorded the win for Big Red. He retired the first 10 batters he faced, and he did not issue a walk on his way to the shutout.
“Noah pitched well,” Banks said. “Noah had a rough outing his last time out, but he came back and threw strikes. PTC — pitch to contact, and he did that. It was a successful outing for him today.”
East Liverpool (2-16) used three pitchers in the game. Braden Duke started on the mound for the Potters, and he took the loss. He struck out two and walked two in his two innings of work. He was replaced to start the third by Carstin Suznevich. Suznevich struck out one while walking one in his one inning of work. Jayden Shaw came on to pitch the fourth. Shaw did not strike out or walk a batter.

“We were able to get some of our younger guys in,” Banks said. “We were able to get them some varsity experience. This is going to huge for their development. They got to see the speed of the game. This will help the program down the road.”
