WINTERSVILLE — For the second-straight week, Indian Creek found itself in an overtime thriller. This time, however, the Redskins were the team celebrating at the end.

Creek stopped rival Edison on fourth down on the first possession of OT, then Ian Starkey lobbed a pass to Bruce Mazar on Creek’s turn with the ball and he eluded tacklers to score a walk-off 20-yard touchdown, lifting Creek to a 21-15 victory in the Route 43 Bowl.

The victory secured a home playoff game I Divison IV, Region 15 for Redskins, who finish the regular season at 9-1.

Edison dropped to 6-4 with the heartbreaking defeat, but will still qualify for the playoffs in Division V, Region 17. The Wildcats will head on the road to open the playoffs.

Mazar finished with six catches for 86 yards and the winning score, while also rushing for a TD. He and Ian Starkey, who racked up 83 yards and a score on 16 carries while throwing for 126 and score, surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season. Starkey became a 1,000-yard passer and riusher with the milestone.

Edison’s Brett Hellyer finished with 86 yards and a score on 25 carries, while Nolan Haught threw for 70 and score in the loss.

Hellyer put Edison on the board first with a 3-yard TD run late in the opening quarter. Creek answered just before halftime with a 3-yard Mazar run to make it 7-7 at the break.

Creek took the lead for the first time by Mason Salazar forcing a safety in the third quarter to make it 9-7.

Andrew Kirkman gave the Wildcats the lead back with a 7-yard TD pass from Haught early in the fourth quarter, then caught a two-point pass to make it a six-point lead.

Creek, though, was able to respond as Starkey scored on a 1-yard plunge on the next drive, though the extra point failed leaving the score knotted at 15-15 and setting up the thrilling finish.
