Sidewalk Saturdays continue
FOLLANSBEE -- The Follansbee Chamber of Commerce will hold its Sidewalk Saturday event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Businesses will be set up along Main Street and joined by assorted craft and other vendors.
At Moe's on Main, patrons will be given a card which they can have punched at each location. Cards can then be returned to Moe's and entered into a prize drawing.
Lions to host community picnic
RICHMOND -- The Richmond Lion's Club will host its Richmond Community Picnic starting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the shelter located behind T.S. Electric.
The event will offer guests free hamburgers, hot dogs, snacks and drinks. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication will be held for ground's upgrades, featuring a new grill, pickleball courts and a pavilion.
Play offered for pre-schoolers
WELLSBURG -- Parents and guardians of children 6 years of age and under are invited to bring their children to the Brooke County Public Library between 10:30 a.m. and noon each Saturday.
The children will be able to use toys and games which are designed to promote hand-eye coordination and a basic understanding of science, engineering, art and math concepts. Parents are encouraged to assist their children with the toys. The toys will be set up and taken down by volunteers.

Senior fitness classes offered
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library is offering Geri-Fit, a 45-minute strength-training class for older adults. Participants begin by lifting light weights, usually while seated. Everyone can work at their own pace, organizers said. Attendees should bring a set of light dumbbells, stretch band and water to drink.
The video fitness classes are held from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Follansbee Library, located at 844 Main St.; and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the Brooke County Library, located at 945 Main St. The classes are free of charge. Pre-school reading program set
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library invites parents to enroll their pre-school age children in the 1,000 Books before Kindergarten reading program. Parents will record the books they have read with their child for a chance to receive a ready-for-school bag when the time comes for them to enter that chapter in their lives.

Online driving practice test available
WELLSBURG -- Teens and others who are preparing for the state Department of Motor Vehicles tests whi are required for a driver's permit and license, can prepare for the tests online by visiting the website wellsburg.driving-tests.org/west-virginia.
The site is unique in that it allows users to hear selections read aloud, convert them to MP3, translate pages into other languages, magnify text and mask portions of the screen for greater visibility.
Farmers Market continues Thursdays
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Farmers Market, located at the corner of South Fourth and South streets, continues to provide an alternative shopping experience for area residents.
A variety of fresh fruits and vegetables are offered by several local vendors, including baked goods, jams, jellies, pickles and honey. Crafts are sold, as well.
Mary Snyder of the Steubenville Visitor Center, which manages the market, explained some vendors are selling their products now and some will not arrive until later in the season.
"Some vendors like Russell's Produce will have a wide selection of fruits and vegetables on Thursdays," Snyder commented. "Others such as Angiuli Farms and Woolf Farms will be arriving later in the season. We will have many who were here last year like June Gardner, who sells baklava, pizzelles and other fancy baked goods; Sweets by a Baker who sells fudge, cookies and more; Hippy Honey, which has honey and tie-dye shirts and leggings; and Lynn's Goodies and Gifts, selling pies, zucchini bread, brownies, pickles, home-canned fruits and veggies." The market operates from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday through the first week of November.
