STEUBENVILLE POLICE

MIA: A teenager reported his 3-year-old brother missing Friday from the 900 block of Woodlawn. He said they were staying with his grandmother for the summer and said they'd gone to Belleview Park, but when they returned grandma was gone and the house was locked so he went into the backyard to answer nature's call and when he returned he couldn't find his brother. Police checked the area but didn't locate the youngster so they charged the teen's phone and had him call his grandmother, who told them she had the missing child with her. She said she'd returned earlier from shopping and found the teen "asleep on the front porch and the 3-year-old was in a neighbor's yard near University Boulevard." Grandma produced a photo of the sleeping teen and said she grabbed the 3-year-old and called the teen on his phone "but he did not pick up."

She said she wanted to "teach him a lesson" and left with his younger brother. She said once she got to Walmart she tried calling the teen but he "lied to her over the phone that he had the 3-year-old."

One car accident: A driver was cited after he allegedly sheared a telephone pole in half Sunday in the 100 block of Jackson Drive. Michael A. Cusick, 49, 4254 Buchanan Rd. Apt. 2, Steubenville, was cited for failure to control. Police said Cusick's SUV sustained disabling damage to the front passenger side wheel, and the bumper, hood, fender, side wheel well area and door were damaged, and a wooden fence, a mailbox post and a "No Parking" sign had been toppled.

Fight club: Callers were concerned about the potential for a fight in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue Saturday. Police saw "three or four people" enter a residence and when they spoke with one of them, she said she'd come outside looking for another female when "a neighbor came outside and started yelling at her." She said the female she was looking for and her sister took her back in the house so there was no fight.

Think twice: A woman in the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue told police she'd allowed a man to store his belongings at her residence but said when he showed up at her door Saturday wanting to sleep there and she told him no, he was irate. She said he "threw a glass cup at her that bounced off her leg and shattered against a wall" and pushed her face away but she had no apparent injuries. He'd already fled so police advised her to "lock her doors so that (he) could not walk into her house again."

Bat girl: Police were told three females in the 800 block of Market Street were "actively fighting," but when they arrived one of the three told them nothing had happened. She said two females came to her home to confront her about clothes belonging to her ex and a fight did break out but it ended when she "got a bat," though she didn't have to use it. She said she wasn't injured and the other two had left. The other females came back to talk to police and said they'd come there for the clothes but when they neared the door the resident came out of the residence with a baseball bat and a fight ensued. They said no one was hit with the bat and no one was injured.

The clerk said he became agitated and threatened him before walking out with a beer and ice cream that he didn't pay for. The angry clerk told police he wants to pursue charges for both offenses.

Give it up: A man not taking his break-up with the mother of his child well asked police to check on their welfare Saturday. Mom said the two of them are fine and she thinks her ex is "using welfare checks as a way to harass her."

Police were contacted Saturday after a Kroger customer began yelling at an employee. Employees said he'd never caused problems before and they weren't sure why he was agitated before he left the store. Police spoke with the man, whom they are familiar with, and report he told them all was good. They told him the store was closed and he needed to leave the property.

Party central: A family rented a property they own in the 1000 block of Oregon Avenue as an Airbnb Sunday but only three people were supposed to be there.
