Resistance is just beginning

To the Editor, Transgender women — biological males who “identify” as female — are being allowed to compete in women’s sports, in which they usually dominate. This is due, naturally, to their frequently larger size and greater muscle and bone density, often giving them advantageous strength and endurance. As males, these athletes likely weren’t strong enough to compete against other men. As “females” however, well, they apparently have no sense of shame, fairness or dignity. Where are the crazed, bitter, man-hating Feminazis on this issue? These are biological men, after ...

A successful Thanksgiving dinner in Weirton

To the Editor, There was another miracle on Main Street in Weirton this year! The annual community Thanksgiving Dinner, which is organized and sponsored by the Weirton Ministerial Association, was held on Thanksgiving Day at the Greater Weirton Senior Center. The WMA would like to thank the over 120 volunteers who worked cheerfully together to serve over 520 people. Many area businesses, civic groups, churches and individuals made it a huge success. The dinner is for anyone who wishes to attend, and deliveries can be arranged. This dinner is rapidly becoming a favorite event ...

Veteran offers thanks

To the Editor, I would like to say thank you to all the people who made the clothing drive for veterans and their families another huge success. Helping out people who honestly need a helping hand like the veterans and their families has always been a priority with me. And thanks to all who helped, it has been another happy and rewarding time in my life to be a part of this. My thanks again to everyone who stepped forward and helped our veterans be a little warmer this winter. God bless you. Robert F. Busch Jr. Burgettstown

Holiday bazaar a success

To the Editor, I would like to thank the folks that attended our Holiday Bazaar and Lunch at St. Thomas on Saturday, November 23. In spite of the rain, we were successful. We offered three soups and three sandwiches. We ran out of the bean and ham soup and sloppy joes, which was a good thing. We offered a variety of baked goods and some crafts. We also had two vendors with beautiful products. Carol Village Weirton

Expand recognition of coaches

To the Editor, I am writing to express my concern about our community’s recognition of coaches and their hard work from the past and the present. I would like for this to be in response to the annual hall of fame inductions that takes place at Brooke High School. My name is Jenna Cooper, I am 19 years old, and I grew up playing sports in Brooke County. I do appreciate the fact that Brooke High School recognizes players and coaches from years ago with their yearly hall of fame inductions. I also admire how the Brooke Memorial Stadium was renamed after Paul “Bud” Billiard last ...

Let’s hope they don’t succeed

To the Editor, In an ongoing saga of fighting for what is right, an opportunity once again arises for the industrious ant to experience the joy of being of service to the grasshopper disinclined to work. To paraphrase an old saying, let the ant toil whilst the grasshopper delights us all with his amusing antics. He might perhaps dance or draw pictures for us. But remember, the grasshopper needs lots of money, that he may be properly nourished and sustained. Which poses a dilemma—how should the funds required for the grasshopper’s needs be procured? After ponderous thought, an ...
