Brooke County Sheriff

Charged: Rian A. Harkins, 22, 104 Fourth St., Follansbee, domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call, Nov. 2. A woman known to Harkins said he pushed his head toward hers in an aggressive manner and grabbed her phone from her.

Charged: John E. Wojcik, 35, 2507 Eldersville Road, Follansbee, driving while suspended for driving under the influence, Monday.

Charged: Seth N. Haspel, 24, Benwood, W.Va., battery, Tuesday. The charge is in connection with a heated exchange between him and a cashier at a local business that allegedly culminated in Haspel slapping the other man in the head.

Wellsburg Police

Charged: Robert A. Baker, 52, 644 High St., Wellsburg, malicious assault, domestic battery and fleeing on foot, Friday, for allegedly striking a woman in the chin, leg and lower torso and threatening her with a knife and running from police dispatched to arrest him later.

Weirton Police

Cynthia Rideaux, 58, 3433 Pennsylvania Ave., Apt. 4, DUI, obstructing officers, Sunday, arrested following a traffic accident at the Marathon station located at 3700 Pennsylvania Ave.

Colin J. King, 51, 1136 Riverview Drive, Weirton, possession of controlled substance, Monday, arrested on a city warrant.

Logan McGlaughlin, no age listed, 3601 State St., Weirton, fugitive from justice, Monday, arrested on an out-of-state capias.

Steubenville Police

Nervous: A Weirton man driving a cab in Weirton told police he “thought he was going to get jumped” when he was asked to pick up a fare at a Steubenville residence, Tuesday. He said he’s been having problems with an ex and thought he was being set up, but police determined it was a legitimate fare.

Threat: Police were told a male had been threatened with a weapon near the intersection of Claire and Summit streets, Tuesday. Once they spoke with him, they learned “no weapons were involved.”

Checking doors: Employees at a business in the 300 block of South Third Street reported a man trying to get in a customer’s vehicle, Tuesday. He said the man tried to open the doors of the vehicle, which was parked in the street, before leaving on foot and heading to a nearby gas station. Police located the male, who advised he “thought the vehicle was for sale” so he tried to open the doors. He was advised in future to ask for assistance.

Ill-gotten gains: A man who used the self-checkout at Wal-Mart elected to receive $100 in cash then forgot to take the money with him, Tuesday. He said the money was gone when he went back to get it, Video captured another man wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans approaching the terminal and “clearly (taking) the money,” then using one of the $20 bills to purchase a bottle of Mountain Dew before leaving in a gray Pontiac G6. Surveillance cameras recorded the vehicle’s license plate, but it wasn’t at the registered owner’s address, police said. The man who forgot his money wants to pursue theft charges.

Panic room: A resident told police he and his female companion had been arguing when he had a “possible panic attack,” Tuesday. The female said nothing physical had occurred and she was going to leave for the night.

Squeezed in: A motorist traveling south on state Route 7 said a tractor-trailer passed her and when it merged into her lane, struck the driver’s side of her car as they approached Franklin Avenue, Tuesday. Police observed rotation marks from the semi’s tires on the car’s front and rear fenders and her side mirror was damaged. The motorist had dash cam footage of the accident. Police said when they contacted the trucker he was “uncooperative” when they told him he needed to “stop and give his account of the crash,” telling police his company would compensate the motorist. Eventually they spoke with a supervisor who said the driver would be there.

Hit-skip: The owner of a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Wilma Avenue overnight said she discovered the passenger side mirror had been damaged, Tuesday. Police said the outside casing was found shattered in the roadway.

Cited: Joan E. Bell, 81, 442 Dresden Ave., Steubenville, one-way street violation after a two-car accident with injuries at state Route 7 and Franklin Street. Both vehicles had heavy front-end damage, police said. Common sense: Callers reported a man wearing a camo shirt and black pants walking in the 200 block of South Hollywood Plaza with a knife in his hand, Tuesday. When police found him, they said he had a small pocket knife in his hand, but the blade was closed. They told him people had complained and that he should keep the knife in his pocket “and not brandish it out in public.”

Senseless: A landlord said someone threw a rock through the back window of a property on Oak Grove Avenue, Tuesday.

Red flag: Police received “multiple calls” of a driver going the wrong way on state Route 7, Tuesday. They checked the northbound and southbound lanes all the way to city limits but couldn’t locate the errant driver.

Booked: Albert L. McFall, 34, no fixed address, failure to appear, Tuesday.

Served: Devin L. Smith, 27, 212 N. Forest Ave., Steubenville, bench warrant, Tuesday.

Code issue: A notice of violation was sent to the owners/occupants of a property at 316 Henry Ave., high grass/weeds.

Cited for speeding: Brittany M. King, 29, 1203 Wentworth Ave., Toronto, and Rebecca M. Brown, 43, 2722 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville.
