Brooke County Sheriff
Charged: Thomas J. Goff, 37, 20 Lindsay Ave., Wellsburg, public intoxication, obstructing an officer and two counts of assault on an officer, Wednesday, for allegedly verbally threatening two deputies as they were arresting him.
Charged: Bernard M. Dobosz, 60, 207 George St., Follansbee, domestic assault and unlawful restraint, Thursday, for allegedly pulling a woman known to him by her backpack into his home, disabling her vehicle so she couldn’t leave and screaming and drawing his fist in her direction.
Steubenville Police
Brawling: A caller in the 400 block of South Fifth Street said a couple was “actively fighting” in her living room, Monday. When police arrived, she told them the female went out the back door and the male had run upstairs. Police stopped the female, who said she and her boyfriend were arguing and after it turned physical, she tried to leave the residence. She said they live together and have been in a relationship for about 15 years. Police said she had a bloody nose and several scratches on her face and neck, and initially advised she wanted to pursue charges but changed her mind when she found out her boyfriend was in custody, so police themselves filed a domestic violence charge against Kenneth Payne, 47, 461 S. Fifth St., Steubenville. Payne also was charged with trespassing because he was caught on JMHA property despite being banned from the premises. Because he had scratch marks on his neck, his girlfriend, Melissa Huntington, 40, also of 461 S. Fifth St., was booked for domestic violence and served with a bench warrant out of municipal court.
Parking wars: A resident in the 400 block of Logan Street was upset because he couldn’t park near his residence, Sunday. He said parishioners from St. Peter Church park in the lot directly west of his building, which he claims belongs to his building. Police suggested he talk to the leasing company that owns the building about having it marked as private property, and he said he’s tried that before “and would continue to do so.”
Hit-skipped: A driver told police he was proceeding through the intersection of John Scott Highway and Mall Drive when he collided with a vehicle making a left onto Mall Drive, Sunday. He said the hit-and-run driver stopped “and exited his car, yelling and cussing at him” before fleeing the scene in what appeared to be a tan Chevy Tahoe.
Punch drunk: A resident in the 200 block of South Fifth Street said his brother had been at his apartment “and became highly intoxicated” and at one point he noticed a “large hole in the drywall,” Monday. He said he left his brother alone in the living room for a time and believes his brother caused the damage while he was there alone.
Cited, booked: A driver was cited and a passenger taken into custody on a drug charge after a traffic stop, Sunday. Police said the driver, Joseph Brubaker, 75, of Cambridge was cited for driving under suspension and will face a charge of possession of a controlled substance unless he can provide proof medication in his possession is prescribed to him. A passenger, Ashley J. Guiler, 40, 116 Beverly Ave., Weirton, was booked into the county jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drugs after police allegedly found “a small amount of methamphetamine and a Subutex” in her pouch.
Stalker: An Opal Boulevard resident said he was following a woman he claimed “stole $1,000 worth of tools from him when she left,” Sunday. Police told him he needed to stay away from her and told the woman the same thing. They said she told him “she was in fear” of the male and confirmed she had his tools but was going to return them.
Shots fired: Callers reported hearing six- to nine gunshots in the 300 block of Pittsburgh Street, Monday. Police said they checked the area “and located a vehicle … with apparent damage from gun shots.”
Cited: Marena Harris, 22, 117 Parr Ave., Steubenville, red light violation after a two-car collision Sunday with injuries on Washington at Third streets. The driver of the other vehicle and her passenger complained of injuries. Harris told police she didn’t see the stop light.
Jefferson County Sheriff
Compounding the problem: A deputy attempted a traffic stop on state Route 152 but the driver fled, Thursday. The vehicle ended up “stuck in a field and the driver exited” the vehicle, running into the woods. K-9 Ripley was deployed, chasing the man through the woods. He eventually was tased but not bitten, and deputies said he was served with several outstanding warrants. The sheriff’s department reported Joseph Hayman, 48, 21 township Road 125, Dillonvale, was booked into jail on charges of theft, obstructing official business, failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer, contempt, and resisting arrest. He also was cited for improper registration, driving under suspension, speeding, no lights, and right of way, stop and yield sign violations.
Nervous: A Juanita Street resident said she saw lights behind her house and heard a gunshot, Saturday. Deputies located man who’d been racoon hunting in the woods with his dog. Deputies asked him to call it a night, which he did.
Family feud: Rock A Malvern man said a family member has a meteorite that belongs to him and won’t give it back, Wednesday. He said he’d loaned it to his uncle who was going to help him identify it, but the uncle had died. He said another family member had claimed it after being named executor of the uncle’s estate and won’t return it, claiming the uncle had given it to her. She told him she would “bequeath the meteorite to him in her will and he would eventually get it back,” but said he recently learned she was trying to sell it. He considered filing charges but eventually concluded he needed to speak with an attorney.
Fraud: A Rayland woman said someone used her information to apply for a $5,000 bank loan, Thursday. She said she found out about the fraud when her bank “thanked her for her recent credit application.
Tool time: Tools were stolen from a residence in Steubenville, Friday. The owner said she inherited the property and is in the process of renovating it. Jacks, saws, generators and drills were missing. She said a family member had gone in right after her father’s death but he couldn’t have done it this time because he’s in jail.
