Police reports
Steubenville Police
Making an entrance: A resident in the 800 block of Market Street said a woman was “attempting to kick in (her) front door,” Friday. The caller said they’d been arguing and claimed the other woman was “drinking excessively,” but the woman had since left the area. Police said the door was not damaged but there were scuff marks on it. They were called back to the property an hour later when the woman returned and was kicking the door again and refusing to leave. Police said the woman kicking the door told them she “was only attempting to (get) her cell phone from her boyfriend” and would leave once she got it, even though the residents said it wasn’t inside. Police said the residents let them look for themselves and it wasn’t there. The woman who’d been kicking the door was told if she returned she’d be arrested, and police said as they were leaving they saw her talking to someone on a cell phone.
Not wanted: Police were called to a residence in the 800 block of Market Street, Saturday. A woman said her brother and another man had been arguing, and her brother told them it started after he asked the other man to leave because he was “under the influence of a drug and was knocking over items in the residence.” The man had gone when police arrived but they located him down the street and advised him to stay away.
In the way: Residents in the 800 block of Market Street complained of a man “squatting in the hallway,” Sunday. Police said he had clothing strewn throughout the hallway and on the staircase, “making the stairs inaccessible to anyone.” When police told him about the complaint he said he was gathering his belongings and going to his mother’s residence.
Drugs: A woman in the 300 block of Sunset Boulevard said she was talking to her friend when her friend fell over, Friday. Police said Steubenville firefighters administered 8 mgs of Narcan to the fallen woman, who said she’d “snorted what she thought was cocaine.” She was issued an overdose form.
In custody: Police pursuing a man wanted on an outstanding warrant ended up taking him and a female companion into custody, Friday. Shawn M. Bowers, 40 and Diana L. Myers, also 40, were booked into the county jail for probation violation, police said. The two, who have no fixed address, were located inside a property on Ohio Street that is not currently rented out. Police had followed the male to the property and when he wouldn’t come to the door obtained permission from the owner to enter. They said they found Bowers and Myers hiding in the attic.
Fraud: The owner of a downtown business said someone used remote deposit for a $1,032.95 check that had an ex-employee’s name on it, Friday. She said she’d written a check in September to cover the former employee’s paid time off but before she sent it out, the woman texted her asking to send it by Venmo. She said she agreed to do it, then voided the paper check and tossed it in the trash. The information was sent to the prosecutor for charges.
Disgruntled: The manager of a Sunset Boulevard eatery said she’d argued with an employee over a dress code violation and he yelled that “he was going to flip out on her” and punched out, calling her a “vulgar name” as he left, Saturday.
Transported: West Virginia State Police took possession of a vehicle they’d pursued to the 500 block of Sherman Avenue, Friday. Troopers told police the driver fled on foot, leaving the vehicle behind.
