Steubenville Police
Spread the word: Truckers parking in the old Grant School lot had been told to move their rigs, Sunday. The city-owned property is needed for upcoming festival parking as well as weekly farmer’s markets. Police spoke with one operator parked in the lot and told him it would have to be moved elsewhere by Monday and “no parking” signs will be in place soon. He also was given information on alternative truck parking.
Man charged: A city resident is facing drug charges after a caller reported a vehicle had been parked but running “for a prolonged period” and the driver appeared to be nodding off, Sunday. Police said Devin Lemoine Smith, 27, 544 Highland Ave., Steubenville, was charged with two felony counts of possessing drugs after he allegedly was found with bags of drugs in his car and on his person. Police said they found Smith’s vehicle running and he was slumped over, but when they stirred him they said he “appeared to be fully coherent … with no obvious signs of impairment.” Police reported finding two large bags of a crystal-like substance and several smaller bags with different color powder substances and a bag containing a large amount of pills identified as oxycodone, a substantial amount of cash and several cell phones.
Booked: Police responding to reports of a disturbance at a house in the 1400 block of Oregon Avenue said there was none, but as they were leaving they heard a man yelling and pounding on a nearby front door and when they approached him they said he appeared to be intoxicated and asked them to get his keys back from a female inside, Monday. A female who opened the door had “dried blood down the right side of her face,” police said, but declined medical attention. She said they’d been visiting family and were “drinking and trying to relax from work” and had planned for them to spend the night but said he “became upset and left the residence” in their vehicle, only to return a few minutes later and demand the keys. She said when she told him he’d taken them a few minutes earlier he “threw his cell phone at her, striking her on top of her head.” After a witness confirmed her account, police said Joshua M. London, 40, 1425 Maryland Ave., Apt. 2, was booked into the county jail on a domestic violence charge. Police said he told them he’d tried getting his apartment keys from the woman “and something was thrown at him” but he shut the door before it could hit him.
Family problems: Hollywood Boulevard residents told police they’re “constantly harassed by their son,” Sunday. They said they’d found out he’d reported they were leaving small juveniles home alone for prolonged periods but said they have no juveniles in their residence and only see their grandchildren when they’re with their mother, visiting. They said the son also has been “threatening them with bodily harm.” They’re seeking a protection order.
Hit-skipped: A white Cadillac crashed into a parked GMC Sierra at the intersection of North Fourth Street and Logan Avenue and the driver was seen fleeing on foot, Sunday. Police said the Cadillac was heavily damaged and the impact pushed the Sierra into a box trailer attached to a Chrysler Pacifica. The rear bumper and hitch of the Pacifica was pushed in and damaged, they said. City cameras captured the driver running from the scene.
Prohibited: A caller reported a large bonfire next to a white van parked at the marina, Monday. Police said when they got there “the fire was completely out and only smoldering.” A man in the area said he’d “been there for some time and had a fire, then went to sleep in his van.” Police told them he can’t do either at the marina.
Booked: A city resident landed in trouble after a caller reported a male had “just kicked the door in” at a Crabbe Boulevard location, Sunday. Police said they found Anthony Beckett, 20, 2516 Crabbe Blvd., walking nearby and booked him into the county jail on charges of retaliation and criminal mischief.
Snatched: A North Sixth Street resident said $104 was stolen from her home, Sunday. She told police the only person who’d been inside was a man she’d kicked out the night before because he was intoxicated, but admitted she hadn’t seen him take the money.
Public street: A woman in the 1200 block of Oak Grove complained that someone parks in front of her residence and had parked too close to her vehicle Sunday for her to be able to pull out. Police told her it’s a public street and she can’t keep people from parking in front of her home. The officer also said there was ample space for her to back up and get out of her parking spot.
Wrong place: A South Fifth Street resident told police her Temu package was delivered to South Sixth Street by mistake, Sunday. She said she tracked it and got a picture of it at the South Sixth Street location but no one is answering the door. Police tried but couldn’t get an answer, either.
Dog nabbed: Euclid Avenue residents said a family member’s ex-girlfriend took his dog while he was in jail, Sunday. Police were unable to locate the ex-girlfriend, nor could they determine who actually owned the dog. Family members said they can provide proof of ownership.
