STEUBENVILLE — Even in the year 2040, absolutely nothing has changed. And that is the joke.

Mystery Theater Unlimited will continue its 30th season of original interactive comedy by bringing “Signfeld 2040,” to local audiences in the coming weeks.

This futuristic parody mystery will be performed at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern in Steubenville and on Feb. 6 at the Rebekah Room in Wellsville.

Set 14 years in the future, “Signfeld 2040” imagines a world overflowing with technological innovation and entirely lacking in common sense.

A familiar group of friends — now well into their 80s — remain fiercely devoted to petty grievances, social irritations and debates that mean absolutely nothing.

From smart furniture with opinions to health monitors that overshare, the future may be more advanced, but it is no less annoying.

The production blends Mystery Theater Unlimited’s signature audience participation with satire, fast-paced comedy and a mystery that unfolds through character interactions, hidden clues and audience detective work.

Guests are not just spectators — they are drawn directly into the action, helping uncover the truth in a world where nothing matters … until suddenly, it does.

The cast includes: Butch Maxwell as Cosmic Skrammer, Dustin Heavilin as Nooman, Pete Fernbaugh as Gerry Signfeld, Sean Deccker as Gorge Crustaza and Sadie Varlas as Eileen Bennets.

The performance is presented as a dinner theater experience at Scaffidi’s, combining live interactive entertainment with an evening out.

Reservations can be made online at scaffidicatering.com/murdermystery.

Mystery Theater Unlimited has entertained Ohio Valley audiences since 1996 with original interactive comedy mystery productions known for clever parody, lively audience engagement and locally flavored humor.

The troupe describes “Signfeld 2040” as “Fourteen years ahead of its time — still petty, still about nothing, just with more ways to die from it.”
