Questions about the church

To the Editor, Wake up, people of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Follansbee, before we lose two good people. Everyone can see that we have two of the best people in the church, ones who any church in the Ohio Valley would love to have, namely Joel John and Attillio Boni. Our church at Christmas and Easter was decorated so beautifully, thanks to the efforts of both of them. It took many hours of work by many volunteers and Joel’s mother. The flowers and arrangements were gorgeous and all donated by Joel with no charge to the church. The music in the church now is the best it ...

Don’t forget Allegiance Sunday

To the Editor, The George Washington Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is once again asking churches, synagogues and spiritual organizations to take part in Allegiance Sunday. Allegiance Sunday is a special day, unlike any of the other days we observe. Memorial Day specifically honors the dead. Veterans Day is a day of remembering all those who have served in all wars. Allegiance Sunday is a day of personal feeling and expression. It is a quiet day, not a day of celebration or exhibition. It is a day set aside for all to participate, to reaffirm their fealty and love of ...

Ignoring the real problem

To the Editor, Talk about ignoring the big elephant in the room local, state and national West Virginia leaders have in many instances simply missed the boat. From those who view President Trump as infallible to those loony liberals who have no concept of reality, there is plenty of blame to go around. I am sure many of you are thinking what designer drugs is this guy enjoying? Other than an occasional beer and a fine cigar the only thing that differentiates me from most West Virginians is I voted with my feet and left Arizona. There are a number of transplanted West Virginians from ...

Candidate thankful

To the Editor, I want to thank the good folks of Weirton who voted for me in the mayoral race. Too bad voter turnout was low. Only 8.7 percent of registered voters voted. George Village Weirton

A good campaign

To the Editor, Congratulations to Flora Perrone for her victory in the Ward Five Weirton City Council Election. I would like to thank all of the people on Marland Heights that took the time to talk to me and Tom (and sometimes even “Lucky”) while we were campaigning in the snow, rain, and even in nice weather. I wish to thank those residents that allowed me to mess up their yard by putting our campaign signs in their yard. We made a special effort to take them down as soon as each election was over. Most of all I would like to thank Tom Charnie for all of his help ...

Why is bishop so silent?

To the Editor, I am a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, and I am extremely disappointed with the bishop of Steubenville. The Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston is a corrupt enterprise. The priests are criminals, from top to bottom, and it has been proven in court documents. How is it possible that silent Jeffrey Monforton, our bishop, buries his head in the sand and says nothing? It is shameful, sinful and very sad. Kathy McCaskey Weirton
