Be careful how you vote

To the Editor, The upcoming 2024 presidential election will be one for the record books. I just need to reach out to all the voters and say, be careful how you vote. I cannot and will not tell anyone who to vote for, but I can express my opinion, on what I think you should vote for. We have been in serious judgement from God since He removed His protections from America. His most recent judgment came in the form of Covid-19. The only way to get God to restore His protections and lift His judgement, is for America to repent, turn back to God, and revival. I look at the two ...

Giving life

To the Editor, The Weirton Lions Club would like to thank everyone who supported our Linda Howell blood drive. Linda is a member of our club and has a place in our hearts. Thanks to the Weirton American Legion Post 10 for the use of their facility. We would also like to thank Rachel Bennett from Vitalant and Bernice Pitcock of the Lions Club for coordinating the event. We were able to procure 22 pints of blood during the event. Thanks again to all our donors who made the event a success. Remember, give life, give blood. Thanks again from the Weirton Lions Club. Fear of maintaining democracy

To the Editor, Senator Amy Klobuchar and other federal legislators have reminded us that we have of the need to keep our Democracy. “A lady asked Dr. Benjamin Franklin, Well Doctor what have we got a republic or a monarchy – A republic replied the Doctor if you can keep it.” The US Constitution is a wise and lasting document that touches our very lives. To guarantee that no single branch of the government stands alone, The US Constitution formally establishes “trias politica” or the Separation of Powers doctrine. By dividing political authority among the three co-equal ...

Thanks for summer events

To the Editor, Another summer has come and gone and I just wanted to acknowledge the hard work of the people and organizations that entertained us in the Ohio Valley. From the fireworks to the free summer concert series to the county fairs to the visitors to the area like USS LST-325, they all brought something fun for residents to see and do. Kudos and thank you to all involved. Steven Rockwell Follansbee

Why aren’t students first?

To the Editor, I just read the article about the goals laid out by the superintendent of the Hancock County Board of Education. Amazingly enough, three of the four goals require more money.  The goal of improving student achievement is third — should that not be the primary goal of the board of education? It is the only goal that does not ask for money. Maybe we should  find more creative ways to help the students achieve their goals, not those of the board of education. I would begin by cutting the salaries of those who do not put students first. Al Rudder Weirton
