Note from the Editor

The general elections are scheduled to take place on Nov. 5, with offices in local, statewide and national levels set to appear on the ballot. In West Virginia, in-person early voting will take place Oct. 23 to Nov. 2. We at The Weirton Daily Times encourage the submission of letters to the editor on a variety of topics, including the election. As such, we have established a deadline of Oct. 27 for election-related letters to be published. Those wishing to submit letters to the editor related to any candidates or election issues must do so no later than noon, Oct. 24. Submissions may ...

Inclusion not for everyone

To the Editor, “Every high civilization has decayed, by forgetting obvious things.”—G.K. Chesterton A Canadian cancer charity has apologized for a statement, in which they erroneously used the offensive term “cervix,” instead of the more “transgender-friendly” verbiage, “front hole.” Because, y’know, transgender “women” don’t have cervices, and we absolutely must kowtow to the tender feelings of these delusional bullies; these intellectual giants who insist upon “inclusion,” even unto the exclusion of actual, biological women, to whose essences they ...

Nothing like a debate

To the Editor, Concerning politics, clergymen are to restrain themselves from statements on politics and I have found it true in my own life. In my ministry, I have never spoken of my own positions, nor will I here. That said, I must evaluate the misdefined “debate,” between the two candidates for president of the United States. The people of the United States want desperately to hear what the plans of each are for the voters. “I’m going to give each new homebuyer a $25,000 benefit to purchase that home.” Men and women, this is a means, not a goal, not a plan. A plan moves ...

All candidates should be heard

To the Editor, After visiting many towns and talking with hundreds of West Virginians, it is clear that they are very dissatisfied with the two-party system that runs statewide politics and, in particular, the governor’s office. Few have ever heard the names of the candidates of the three non-major parties, their principles or their platforms because they, to the detriment of we the citizens, are given no voice on media forums. The West Virginia Broadcasts Association, TV and radio stations and newspapers could well serve the state’s citizens by staging a debate so we can make ...

Traffic intersection revisited

To the Editor, Okay folks. A few years ago, I addressed a letter to this paper about the traffic light that was removed from the Cove Road/East Street intersection. Unknown to all of us on why it was taken out. The only reason that I feel is that the state had it removed. Why I don’t know. Just like the traffic lights that were removed by the state, we need to establish some kind of stability to control your traffic. Yes, control the traffic. Try getting out of the Community Center on Friday, or crossing Cove Road from East Street. Good luck trying to peek around the Event ...
