To the Editor, I have always appreciated the democratic republic that we in the United States of America enjoy. Knowing that that is not unanimous, such a stand gives many the right to disagree and to loathe the democratic republic. Currently, the talking heads who are Democrats, tell us that this is a most to-be-feared election just in case that Donald Trump is elected president. To the Editor, It has been announced that Michael Moorer, former world heavyweight boxing champion, will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame as part of the distinguished Class of 2024. Local fans of the squared circle may recall the soon-to-be hall-of -famer appearing at local amateur tournaments. Moorer won the 139-pound Junior Olympic title in Weirton at the Thomas E. Millsop Community Center. Then-U.S. Rep. Allan Mollohan, D-Fairmont, donated the trophies and was on hand for the events that night. Over the last few years, I’ve read articles and seen in-person interviews with young black people, often attending demonstrations on high school and college campuses, enthusiastically demanding blacks-only classes, clubs and “safe-spaces”...where they of course would only have to associate and interact with others like themselves. For so many years Angel Trees, red kettles and bell ringers have been an important and symbolic part of the Christmas season helping the Salvation Army provide toys and food for needy families.
