Serving the needs

To the Editor, Several months ago, a need was identified to provide Christmas dinners for Weirton citizens by representatives of the City, All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, the Order of AHEPA 103, and the Salvation Army of Weirton. Through the initiative of these individuals, 300 hot meals were provided to Weirton high-rise residents, shut-ins, citizens, Weirton Police Department and Weirton Fire Departments. The enthusiasm, positivity, and willingness of many individuals made this possible and their efforts did not go unnoticed. With deepest gratitude, thank you to all of the ...

War, with no end in sight

To the Editor, Four-thousand years later, the game is the same. Israel is at war — Hamas is to blame. When war rules the day, death is at hand. There are 20,000 souls weeping with no end in sight. It’s hard to defend indiscriminate killing other than to say it’s a crime. We’re spending billions of dollars supporting two wars. How about billions of dollars supporting a two-state solution and no war? The Middle East is at the brink of catastrophic consequences if the war continues and there is no cease fire. How many humans must die over a line in the sand? Steve ...

Reasons to be appalled

To the Editor, We know of the creator-given rights mentioned in the Declaration of Independence of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Are these rights just for us who are born, or do they apply in all stages of life? “You brought my inner parts into being, you wove me in my mother’s womb.” (Psalms 139:13,14) Anyone with a conscience intact was appalled at the atrocities that took place in Israel on Oct. 7. Adults, children and babies were taken from their safe places and mutilated, killed or burned to death. We also must be appalled at the atrocity that takes place on ...

Corporate greed hurts everyone

To the Editor, News has reached Bob Cratchit’s Christmas dinner table that working families pay the price for corporate greed. The elite media has naive Americans transfixed on gender issues, while greedflation goes mostly unreported and costs the Upper Ohio Valley workforce more than ever. Tyson Foods’ billionaire board chairman is a Republican. While party registration at the local courthouse grows deeper red, it is President Joe Biden’s Democrat Department of Justice that is fighting the price fixing. Tyson Foods has brought higher prices to the greengrocers, which has ...

Clothing drive helps veterans

To the Editor, I would like to thank the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation for hosting the duty free veterans’ clothing shop this past week. As a veteran I was able to go to the shop and browse the many donations. I was amazed at the overwhelming array of apparel offered to included some for female veterans. I picked up a few items for myself. Unfortunately, my main reason for attending the clothing shop was to pick up clothing for my sister and her military veteran husband. They currently live in Clarksville, Tenn. They survived the EF 3 tornado with only the clothes on their ...

Innocence

To the Editor, Wouldn’t it have been fun to have misbehaved with Marilyn Monroe and Greta Garbo back in the days? Not afraid to steal a kiss or take a hay ride without a health card request. Meeting in the hall after class, holding hands, hugging, turned on, turned down. Oh what fun it would have been just to be Greta Garbo’s best friend. Steve Kopa Weirton
