Thankful for blessings

To the Editor, Wow, I had a very blessed and thankful Thanksgiving! I had all the trimmings and the turkey provided to me by the Table of Hope. Table of Hope received a generous food donation from Gifts of Years group of the Weirton Christian Church. Special thanks to the anonymous donor of the turkey, too. I am so grateful for the generosity of strangers who help those in need. Thank you so much for doing my Thanksgiving shopping with this food blessing. This past year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. But, I am a survivor. It is difficult for me to go shopping for I get ...

Heading toward ochlocracy

To the Editor, Winston Churchill said “Democracy is the worst form of government—except for all the others that have been tried.” Winston Churchill was wrong. Prior to the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932, citizens of our country seldom if ever spoke the word democracy and seldom was it heard. The primary reason for this is quite simple: our founding founders recognized our newly established nation as a constitutional republic. A lady asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well, what have we got, a monarchy or a republic,” to which Franklin replied, “A republic, if you can ...

COVID precautions are the real concern

To the Editor, At this writing, our illustrious federal government, still playing the COVID games they love so much, is considering yet another round of “mask mandate,” in order to combat “long COVID.” Now, the fact that COVID-19 has an average total recovery rate somewhere above 99.5% aside, we’re talking about continued imposed precautions against an ailment that has, in going on four years, infected less than three-quarters of a billion people worldwide, killing less than seven billion. Worldwide. In over three years. This is the “pandemic” for which they closed ...

Turkey calling

To the Editor, Calling all turkeys. Calling all turkeys. Please report to my dinner table. I’m hungry. Ya. We just wish it was that simple. Preparing that big meal for company and families to arrive at your house for that treasured meal. But what about those who can’t? Shut-ins, low income, single parents, homeless folks. We can help these people out. And it’s not too late. If you can’t bring a meal to them, donate your time or money, or both, to places that are providing those meals at a warm environment. You’ll feel good about doing this. The forgotten will be ...

Stop the war on coal in 2024

To the Editor, Joe Biden has vowed to close coal-fired power plants and put many more Americans out of work, directly and indirectly. He wants to replace coal with more expensive and government-subsidized alternative energy sources. Biden disregards coal’s importance to our nation’s energy independence, electric grid reliability, and national security. Joe Manchin allowed Biden to continue the War on Coal as the deciding vote for the “Inflation Reduction Act.” This doubles production taxes on coal and natural gas and will cause higher inflation and energy prices. Manchin ...
