A concern for the city

To the Editor, I want to reach out to every citizen in Weirton to have them contact their respective council person and tell them not to support Southwestern Energy’s proposal for mineral extraction on the Park Drive property. I do want to congratulate and thank the Weirton Water Board, and especially the Utilities Director Butch Mastrantoni, for taking a stand not to support this effort. It is not only risky and scary, but could be extremely dangerous. I’m really not sure how city officials thought this was a good idea. What I find hard to believe is that anyone within the ...

Highway to Heaven

To the Editor, As I sit here thinking About what I have dreamed I dream of yesterday I day dream of today As we sit here thinking What do others dream Is it pleasant things Or is it just some great happenings Do we think of the past Of those who have gone Or do we smile and laugh Of the memories that are beneficiary Yes...our dreams or daydreams Ah they tell us many things How we are and who we will be In Heaven...yes heaven eternally Kevin Neverly Weirton

Questioning the timing

To the Editor, Quick question to General Milley. Could the Taliban be suffering from “white rage”? Perfect timing for all this too, since in the next budget bill, 18-year-old girls will be required to register for the draft. Build back better, yeah. Zachary Miser Weirton

Which side is steering us wrong?

To the Editor, What’s happened to America? Why the reason the average person is not happy with being an American? How can some cuckoos on Fox News push the idea of a deep state peeking in your window and Trump’s dictatorial ideas better than democracy. Fox News’ big three, Carlson, Hannity and Ingraham, may as well declare a revolution against everything we as a people stand for in a democracy. Fox News’ Mark Levin authored a book reaching back into the depths of hell, rehashing dictatorial ideas of Carl Marx. Mark Levin’s book “Marxism,” the right’s move toward ...

Stopping an arms race

To the Editor, I’m not sure if hypersonic missiles or Iran’s drones have a chance of first strike capability. If so, or if some countries will think so, and/or don’t fear a second strike, then we need to take preventative steps. The same applies to nuclear weapons (with or without these,) and perhaps likewise even poison gas. If there is a chance of conquest by China, Iran, or North Korea—or a chance of destruction by any of those countries or by Russia, we need a freeze on new missiles and/or weapons of those sorts; there should be immediate inspection of any suspicious sites ...

Festival should not suffer

To the Editor, My wife and I, as we do every year, recently attended the Follansbee Community Days festival. The live music was very enjoyable, and the closing fireworks display remains one of the best in the Valley, as far as we’re concerned. Their fireworks are always a highlight of our summer. I’ve lived in Weirton since 1991, long enough to remember what I’ll call the Community Days of Yore, held on Virginia Avenue. Remember? Back when vendors stretched the length of the street for several blocks. Thousands of people crowded into the narrow thoroughfare, chatting, ...
