Lack of action by Hancock Commission

To the Editor, July 1, 2016, the Hancock Commission refused to renew the Animal Shelter Operation contract with a nonprofit who had operated the county shelter for over 20 years. They immediately requested a legal opinion from the W.Va. Attorney General’s Office regarding legal rights to a balance of over $360,000 in Animal Shelter Excess Levy funds raised on behalf of the nonprofit. In March of 2017 the Attorney General provided a legal opinion stating that neither the nonprofit nor the Commission had a legal right to the accumulated funds. He recommended these funds be returned ...

Thanks to the truck drivers

To the Editor, Did you ever wonder where all your goods come from? Truckers. If it is shipped by land, sea, rail, or air, a truck got it there. UPS, FEDEX, and your local postal service recieved their postals from trucks. Worldwide, truckers make their routes. Even on holidays. While friends and families are enjoying each other’s times together, truckers are making their rounds, checking their deliveries to make sure everything is in their unit. So the next time you sit down for a hot meal, or when you try on those new jeans...remember. A truck got them there. Thanks to all ...

May peace of God be with you all

To the Editor, In February of this year, I lost my wife after 46 years of a most happy marriage. Linda was a saint, well-loved by her nieces and nephews and all her friends. Her devotion to her faith in Jesus Christ and her perseverance in her Catholic faith were unquestionable. I write this letter in dedication to her life and the love we shared together over that span. I further take this opportunity to share a bit of my faith and where I am going upon death. I firmly believe in God’s love and his promise of eternal life for repentant sinners, and I invite all of you who come to ...

Justice has been served

To the Editor, Well, it’s about time that justice has been served. This should be a wake-up call. I realize cops have a difficult job, but too many innocent people have been killed. Let’s hope and pray that this will make a change, but it probably will take some time for that to happen. Justice has been served. Florence Donley Weirton

People still play the race card

To the Editor, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believed all men should live in peace, make forgiveness a virtue, remembrance a vice and in the elimination of black-on-white and white-on-black violence. With hatred omitted, only history and remembrance can make them hate. But King had a dream: “I have a dream that one day in the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.” What is sad is that we still have people in America who are playing the race card, and the saddest part is they ...

Colonizing space

To the Editor, Is the world flat, square or round? In the year 2021, scientists sending probes into space searching the universe to find a new world; a new planet to live on. Colonizing the universe. Shall it be two of every race, or shall they create a race in outer space of bigots and white supremacists? All strong and no weak. Scientists and brainstormers. No weak and no meek. All strong conservatives. Abort the rest. This I ask Sen. Graham, Sen. Cruz and the editor of the conservative press. Viva America and live the American dream. Steve Kopa Weirton
