Taking the path to community leadership

For more than three decades, the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce has provided a pathway for local business representatives to take on larger roles at work and in their communities. Leadership Ohio Valley, originally known as Leadership Weirton, has a long history of helping individuals realize their potential and showing them ways to give back. There isn’t a segment of our local society that hasn’t been touched by this program. Honoring all of our veterans

The names of the battlefields America’s men and women have fought on have changed many times during the years, but we must always remember the sacrifices they have made in those faraway places. That’s why every reader should take a moment on Tuesday, Veterans Day, to remember all who have served and all who continue to serve. For more than a century, America’s coal industry has powered our homes, forged our steel, and fueled our prosperity. It has been the backbone of industrial growth and a symbol of American strength, self-reliance, and hard work. Even today — after nearly two decades of relentless political and regulatory assault — coal remains one of this nation’s most valuable resources, sustaining hundreds of thousands of jobs and keeping electricity affordable and reliable for millions of families. Coal mining and the industries that depend directly on it employ more than 400,000 Americans. ...

Regarding the Urban Mission

To the Editor, Surely, the Urban Mission was aware in advance of the lack of funds it needed to continue to keep the shelters open. Somebody, anybody and nobody. There was an important job to be done. Everybody was sure somebody would do it. Anybody could do it and nobody did. The bottom line is that everybody blamed somebody when nobody did what anybody could have. Well, somebody get busy. Open the church basement — take the beds from the shelter and Martha Manor and set them up in the basement. Memory serves there’s a kitchen there. You have that box truck — use it to move ...
