CLARKSBURG — Despite allowing a run and walking six batters, Madonna’s Gavin Dietrich threw a no-hitter during Friday’s 7-1 victory over Parkersburg Catholic.

Dietrich also produced at the plate, finishing with a single and an RBI. Dom Mazur produced a pair of runs batted in. Dylan Austin recorded two singles and two RBIs, while Ethan Rowing added a single and an RBI.

Madonna is back in action today, resuming the tournament.

CONNORVILLE — The Buckeye Local baseball team continued its strong start to the season on Friday with a 10-0, five inning win over Buckeye 8 Conference foe Beaver Local at home.

Daniel Kelley struck out three and walked none tossing all five innings for the win.

Alan Burkett, Dalton Watt and Shayne Christian each finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Fred Hurtler and Kelley also plated runs.

The Panthers host Indian Creek on Monday.

WEIRTON — The Madonna softball team bounced back from a tough loss Thursday to defeat Catholic Central, 12-8, on Friday.

Madalena Daugherty shined for the Blue Dons (3-9). She picked up the victory in the circle, walking none and striking out five in seven innings. At the plate, she produced a double, triple and two RBIs.

Also for Madonna, Gia Riccadonna tripled and drove in a pair. Miranda Sole had a single, double and an RBI. Nina Daugherty and Jordan Schubert each singled and drove home one.

For the Crusaders, Kylie Roe started and took the loss, walking three and striking out one in six innings. Bella Zinno led the offense with two singles, a double and two RBIs. Bailie Murphy tallied a double and a pair of runs batted in. Kaylee Kirkpatrick singled twice and brought home a run, while Katelynn Dorsey added an RBI.

CONNORVILLE — The Buckeye Local softball team suffered a tough defeat on Friday, 12-11, to Beaver Local at home in extra innings.

Emily Berry had two hits, including a double, and five RBIs for the Panthers, now 2-5. Jordyn Spencer (single, double), Kya Demeter (two triples, single) and Cameryn Case (two singles) also had mulitple hits for Buckeye Local.

After getting down 7-0 through three and a half innings, the Panthers rallied back with three in the fourth inning and four in the fifth inning, tying the game with three more in the bottom of the seventh and one in the eighth to extend the game, before the Beavers won in the 10th.

Buckeye Local hosts Indian Creek on Monday.
