Early voting was easy process

To the Editor, Kudos and hats off to the Hancock County Board of Elections for a great job for early voting at the courthouse. On Oct. 23, we arrived shortly before the courthouse opened. Voting had not started but about 10 people had already been screened for temperature checks and had passed through the security check. Chairs had been provided in the lobby. Numbers were distributed to be called when voting started. To the Editor, The Dunbar Recreation Center (DRC), located at the corner of Weir Avenue and Kessel Streets in Weirton, is a vital part of our area’s history and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, making all donations to its preservation fully tax deductible. Since its official opening on December 21, 1944, the DRC has served as the site of many speeches, dinners, and community meetings that have brought together people from eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia. To the Editor, This past weekend, the entire sports community, along with the Brooke Bruin community, lost a very close and dear friend. We were all saddened and shocked to hear of the loss of Ron Ujcich, Brooke High School coach and mentor. I am sure I can speak for all local sports officials who ever had the opportunity to work for Ron, that he is one person who we will miss dearly. To the Editor, It boggles the mind, but in this year, the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, we currently have a Senator who has repeatedly voted against equal pay for women, raising the minimum wage, health care, and women’s reproductive freedoms. Is Hancock County in financial trouble?

To the Editor, Commission President Joe Barnabei recently posted a video indicating what he plans to do as a commissioner. In the video, he talks about how difficult it was to submit a balanced county budget this year. Submitting a balanced budget is a state requirement. Since in 2016 he strongly supported removing a nonprofit that operated our county animal shelter that increased county expenses by about $300,000 a year, he is partly responsible for this financial situation.
