There are honest people

To the Editor, I would like to thank the person who turned my coin purse in at Taco Bell last week. I can’t thank you enough. There aren’t too many people around anymore who are honest. May God bless you. You will be rewarded someday. Florence Donley Weirton

Keep your hands off

To the Editor, I am writing this about people who go around stealing stuff off of people’s porches. It’s a shame you can’t beautify your home without someone destroying it, and, best of all, you have no trespassing signs up, which are ignored. They either can’t read or just plain don’t care. It’s not the value of what was taken, it’s the fact you came on my property. You have a lot of nerve. You must have been born in a cave. I hope and pray that someday, someone does the same to you, that is if you’re not in prison. I hope you get your kicks off by doing this, ...

Listen to our youth

To the Editor, The callousness of two adult journalists, Rich Lowry “Don’t listen to Greta Thunberg,” and Cal Thomas, “Knowing it all at age 16.” Lowry, “with very rare exceptions, kids have nothing interesting to say to us.” Thomas, “As their adolescent brains continue to develop, most teenagers know only what their teachers and textbooks tell them and maybe their parents, if they still listen to them.” Science textbooks mostly embrace the climate change scenario. Why wouldn’t kids believe? Here are two adults living in the Dark Ages compared to what ...

Does Weirton care?

To the Editor, Recently I was told people in Weirton don’t care about issues like the proposed water and sewage expansion anymore than they cared to make the effort to vote in the last municipal election. I care and I believe there are still enough of us who care and will make the effort to hold our elected officials accountable. When the few no longer remain vigilant, our democracy will no longer be! I spent 10 hours at the library looking for documentation to support my statement we had 25 percent spare capacity of both water and sewage. I remembered a quote in the paper stating ...

Weirton Moose appreciates support

To the Editor, On behalf of Weirton Moose Lodge 688, I wish to sincerely thank the first responders of the Upper Ohio Valley for their overwhelming support of our recent gun bash event held Sept. 28. While a large turnout was present from the general public, those who serve us 24 hours a day, 365 days a year deserve special recognition. Representatives of the Weirton Police Department; Brooke, Hancock and Jefferson county sheriff’s departments; Weirton and Steubenville fire departments; and E.M.T. members turned out to make this event a huge success. All proceeds from this event ...

Condition of roads is disgusting

To the Editor, Much has been said and written concerning the disgusting road conditions in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia. All of these efforts have been futile. I expect bringing up the problem again will have no effect. As a lifelong resident of West Virginia, I can say the condition of roads in the Panhandle has never been worse. This is less tolerable since voters approved the road bond levy by a wide margin. It’s obvious that since the levy, the road conditions have deteriorated dramatically. The cause can only be attributed to incompetence, favoritism or corruption, ...
