Theocrats and hypocrisy

To the Editor, I’m way past having been done with these hypocritical evangelicals and religious nitwits attempting to force their indoctrination onto people of other beliefs and scientific disciplines. They try to claim some sort of moral high ground by invoking their belief structure onto others who, much of the time, are morally superior to themselves. Case in point: The morally decrepit, feeble-minded grifter and thief of a president. Yes, President Trump, you can’t get cancer from wind mills, and neither the Brits nor the Revolutionary Army of 1775 had the ability to fly ...

Accusations are a tiring game

To the Editor, As I write this, Internet liberals are afire with outraged sympathy for 75-year-old E. Jean Carroll, the latest in President Trump’s apparently endless slew of victims. According to Carroll, Trump raped her in a Manhattan department store dressing room in 1996. Typically, the incident is years, and in this case decades, old, and this is the first we’re hearing of it. Clearly the woman, a successful magazine advice columnist and author, was devastated. Why, it’s almost like she doesn’t have a book coming out, soon. And now, not unlike SCOTUS Justice Brett ...

Marina brings joy

To the Editor, I am elated to hear about the new water pipes that are going to replace the old ones throughout the Steubenville Marina. I so enjoy the peaceful beauty of the marina’s wildlife and nature surrounding me, the rabbits, geese, chipmunks, ducks and the gentle breeze rustling through the trees. I love watching the sun reflect off the water and the splashing of waves as the barges and boats go by. The marina also is a favorite place to share a sandwich with a loved one from the local Subway nearby. It’s amazing watching the ants below our feet as breadcrumbs fall. ...

Widespread corruption

To the Editor, Ms. McCasky in her letter to the editor two Sundays ago chided Steubenville’s Bishop Monforton for not speaking out about what I presume was the moral and financial malfeasance of former bishop Bransfield of the Wheeling/Charleston Diocese. She said the diocese was a “corrupt enterprise” and “The priests are criminals from top to bottom....” I had the pleasure of casually meeting Bishop Monforton a few years ago at the Christmas Nativity display at the Nutcracker Village. He was an engaging, spirit filled prelate, exactly how I had heard he would be. He also ...

Let’s teach true facts

To the Editor, Consider sexual orientation for America from the colonial days to the 20th and 21st centuries presidents. Ben Franklin, the debaucher’s limerick: “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” He was let into the bedrooms of many women after the lights had gone out and fathered as least 15 illegitmare children. Starting with Jimmy Carter, “I have only committed adultry in my heart,” to JFK’s hitting on a different woman every three days, to Clinton’s defining oral as meaning more than brushing one’s teeth in his relationship with ...

River sweep a great event

To the Editor, A wonderful Ohio River Sweep took place on June 15 at the Steubenville Marina. As a frequent visitor I would like to say thank you to all who have participated in the event, and to also say what an amazing job that was done. Now, if only the fire trucks could come in and hose off the lower level walkway near the river it would be like icing on the cake — a job fully complete. Tinna Adams Weirton
