Steubenville Police

Charged: A Lawson Avenue resident was booked into the county jail after another woman accused her of trying to smother her with a pillow, Friday. Police said Nancy L. Haese, 47, 314 Lawson Ave., was charged with strangulation after the other woman told police she’d entered the residence April 17 and tried to hold a pillow over her face, but a family member saw what was happening and yelled out, distracting Haese enough so she could get free. The victim said she’d wanted to file the report earlier but didn’t have access to a car so she could drive to the police station.

Charged: A man was charged with driving under suspension along with the owner of the vehicle with letting him do it, Saturday. Police said Reginald D. Johnson Jr., 23, 810 N. Sixth St., Steubenville, was cited for a stop sign violation in addition to DUS, while Maleah D. Fletcher, 33, also of 810 N. Sixth St., was cited for wrongful entrustment and her vehicle towed. Police allege Johnson, Fletcher and an 18-year-old passenger were irate when told the vehicle was being towed, yelling obscenities, screaming and causing a disturbance, but the vehicle was removed nonetheless. Johnson had also been cited for a plates violation and driving under suspension in the same vehicle earlier in the week, police said.

Violent man: Police were called to the 2600 block of Sunset Boulevard after a resident reported a man had thrown a female neighbor down the steps before fleeing, Friday. When the caller told the victim police were on the way she “gathered her children and left.”

In custody: A city resident was taken into custody after he allegedly struck a female and a police officer then tried to assault a family member in the 300 block of Highland Ave., Friday. Police said Lloyd Williams, 62, 707 Market St., Steubenville, was charged with being disorderly while intoxicated. They alleged Williams alternated between affability and hostility, at times “calling (an officer) names and threatening (his) welfare” before walking up to him in a hallway and hitting him with his cane. They report Williams became agitated during the booking process at the jail and refused to do what he was told, ending up on the ground and requested an ambulance.

Pet issues: A South Fifth Street resident told police a neighbor let his dog out and it chased his cat, then approached him “in an aggressive manner,” Thursday. He said the dog didn’t bite him, but its owner walked up “and head-butted him.”

Alcohol problem: An “admittedly intoxicated” woman told police she’d come to town with her boyfriend, Thursday, and he’d “dropped her off and left.” She was able to phone a friend, who took charge of her.

Drugs: A homeless woman overdosed on the stoop of a downtown church, Thursday. Police said she was unresponsive when help arrived and city firefighters administered 8 milligrams of Narcan, which revived her. Police said a burned crack pipe and a bottle fell from her lap when they moved her and they found a used, empty syringe in her bag. She was issued another drug treatment form.

Doggie do: A Girard Avenue resident was miffed because his neighbor “walks her dog down to his property to use the bathroom,” Friday. He said he’s spoken to her in the past but she continues to do it.

Cited: Daniel Quaynor, 21, 215 N. Fifth St. (Rear), Toronto, cited for failure to yield while entering the roadway after a two-car collision in the 2600 block of Sunset Boulevard. Police allege Quaynor was pulling out of the midtown Speedway when he struck the passenger side rear of another vehicle, “causing both driver side tires to dismount the rim” on the oncoming vehicle.

Big mistake: Police investigating a litter complaint in the 1200 block of Ridge Avenue (Rear) said they found “several garbage bags full of someone’s personal items” and were able to identify the owner based on information retrieved from the bags, Thursday. Police said a case has been initiated.

No proof: A Follansbee man complained that a man who’s been doing odd jobs for him stole a laptop and a backpack containing other items, Thursday. Police said the guy who’d been working for him came in not long after to say “the laptop was given to him” by another man and said the Follansbee man “has been shorting him money for the odd jobs he has been doing.” He said he’d already sold the laptop. Police said the Follansbee man was unable to provide proof of a theft.

Drugs: Police issued a drug treatment form to a woman in the 1100 block of Cliff Avenue after she had to be revived with Narcan, Saturday. The woman said she wasn’t sure what she’d taken. Steubenville firefighters took her to the hospital for treatment.

Recovered: A vehicle that had been reported stolen was found in a parking lot in the 2200 block of Sunset Boulevard, Friday. Police said the steering column had been damaged.

Concerned: A man on a bicycle keeps riding past a downtown establishment, threatening harm to the director and staff, Friday.
