WINTERSVILLE — Wintersville has another reason to be proud, as one of its popular restaurants is going national.

Pastaio Cucina Rustica Italiana is preparing to receive a visit from America’s Best Restaurants — a national media and marketing company which focuses on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants. The company will be bringing its roadshow to the restaurant July 20, where its more popular dishes will be highlighted.

Although chef and owner Giuseppe Di Gristina is hard-pressed to make a claim as to what may be featured on the episode, he does note the top seller for the restaurant is linguine alla calabrese, a dish containing shrimp, cremini mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and broccoli in a white wine cream sauce.

In addition to focusing on menu items, an extensive, on-camera interview will be done with Di Gristina regarding the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired on social media channels at a later date.

America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on location from 9 a.m. to noon.

The restaurant’s name, Pastaio, translates to pasta maker in Italian, reflecting on its commitment to crafting homemade pasta using a bronze-die extruding process. This ensures a textured, more porous pasta that lends itself to holding sauces more effectively and an overall better dining experience, according to DiGristina.

Di Gristina began his culinary career in California, after emigrating as a young man from Palermo, Sicily. He opened two restaurants in California after learning the art from his brother, who is a chef.

He then made his home in the Pittsburgh area where his family has roots.

Pastaio Cucina Rustica Italiana offers a warm, homey atmosphere and an outdoor tent for al fresco dining. The establishment provides catering and event space for special occasions.
