Looking at generational wealth

To the Editor, When Michelle Obama spoke at the Democratic National Convention, she said “that most of us will never be afforded the grace of failing forward … we will never benefit from the affirmative action of generational wealth.” What is generational wealth? It refers to financial assets that are passed down through families to children and grandchildren, etc. In small towns across the upper Ohio Valley, grandparents, parents and extended family members are followed to numerous fields to see youngsters perform in countless athletic events. Generational wealth is seldom on ...

More taxes?

To the Editor, I just read the article, “Weirton moving ahead on plans for park levy.” Really, are you kidding me, more taxes for the citizens? What kind of city government do we have in Weirton? This is the most ridiculous move the city has made, yet. Since it really doesn’t do anyone any good going direct to council with an issue, I decided to go to the letter to the editor. Not to be critical, but taking anything to council is like a deer staring into headlights. You get no comments, no response. The article stated that a resolution was approved by council to place an ...

Where is the tolerance?

To the Editor, At this writing, following the recent events in Butler, PA, it’s amazing how unhappy those tolerant, compassionate liberals and Democrats on social media are, that the attempted assassination of a Presidential candidate has failed. Here we are, a few days after the attempt, and average Democrats are living right down to expectations, showing their true Blue. One reads the angry, disappointed comments and has to wonder how many of these vicious lunatics are normally rabidly anti-gun. “Trump is a threat to society,” one frustrated Facebook user declared ...

25-Year Club picnic a success

To the Editor, On behalf of the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club Committee, we would like to take this time to thank all of the sponsors and workers who made this possible. This year’s picnic was held July 13 and was very well attended with more than 450 members. The weather was great and everyone seemed to enjoy seeing their past co-workers. So, let’s give a big shout-out to all of the great sponsors who gave generously to make this happen: First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union, Tudor’s Biscuit World and Hancock County Savings Bank. Other donors were James White ...

Events in Butler County

To the Editor, It could have been an episode from the highly popular and successful TV series “Homeland,” starring Carrie Mathison. The real-life events of July 13, a 20-year-old Bethel Park 2022 honors graduate, who received an award in science and math, parked his vehicle packed with explosives and walked carrying an AR-15 rifle to a unsecured two-story building in direct line of fire sight that the Secret Service failed to secure and discharged mutable shots at former President Donald Trump. One bystander was killed, two others were wounded, one grazed the top of the ear of the ...
