Local residents offered help

To the Editor, My daughter and I planned a biking trip from Coraopolis, Pa., to Weirton through the Montour and Panhandle trails. The ride was fabulous — we passed by streams, small towns and beautiful nature. When we pulled into Weirton, it was already getting dark. While trying to figure out how we would bike safely from the trailhead to our hotel, we met a human angel. Sheila, a lovely life-long resident of Weirton and school teacher, who saved us by getting us a ride from the trail up to our lodging. Her neighbor, Dave, was our chariot of safety, transporting us. It was a ...

A tribute to dads

To the Editor, Dad. Grandfather. Uncle. Neighbor. Friend. Interesting concept of all of the previously mentioned. So, what do they all have in common? They are Fathers. Yes, those men of steel who leap over tall buildings in a single bound. Those men who can bend steel in their hands, and shoot bullets out their mouths. Ah yes, the do it yourself folk. The Saturday handy guy. Okay, so maybe the do it all guy isn’t the do it all guy. Cook and clean the house. Help make dinner. Wash the laundry. Send the kids to the bus stop. Mom does that stuff. But you, the supernatural, try to ...

Death is imminent

To the Editor, Born in 1935, father dies in 1941. Five brothers fought in World War II, all made it back home. Fear of death for a loved one, not understanding the time will come when pain’s too great for everyone to negotiate one’s heavenly fate. Never fear, Jesus is near. If not, things will get hot. What does McGeehan have against Weirton?

To the Editor, I just learned a few weeks ago the following actions by Hancock County Delegate McGeehan during the 2023 legislature session. Hancock County Delegate Mark Zatezalo introduced HB 3450 which, as I understand, would have taken 1% of the Mountaineer Race Track slot machine revenue (between $700,000 and $800,000) that the Hancock County Commission had been receiving, and split evenly these monies between the three Hancock County cities; Weirton, New Cumberland and Chester. This would have resulted in each Hancock County city receiving approximately $250,000 annually. This ...

Under Democratic control

To the Editor, I like the fact that each person can see, the exact same thing, and yet have differing opinions. My point is to the Letter to the Editor regarding; Why you must vote Democrat. The writer sees bringing 7 million immigrants into this country, illegally, okay. The article states; it will be okay, they will find jobs as laborers, in support of our economy. They will start at lower wages which will reduce our cost of goods and services. That might have worked in 1960, but not today. If we have another 4-years, of democratic control, America will be at the tipping point of ...

Odds and ends

To the Editor, Russia’s history from the czars to present day; dictators haven’t fared too well in diplomacy. Putin has one of two options in his invasion of Ukraine; null and none. Maybe Trump’s right having one man rule which he prefers. The sad part, what to do with the cruel and evil dictators ruling the day. What good is the Constitution if one man “Trump” can shred it to pieces? Golf: Some putts made at the Masters appeared magical. Magnetic ball to magnetic cup. World population, 8 billion and climbing. If there are food shortages, due to climate chang, ...
