Addiction is not a joke

To the Editor, Fox News pundits went fishing and caught a minnow in Hunter Biden’s chump change money deals. A million here and a million there, and let a big fish, D.J. Trump, do his mumbo jumbo vocabulary act confusing Hannity, Waters and Ingraham to the point of embarrassing Fox News and what it represents, news or fantasy. Thursday, Aug. 10, Fox News’ selected audience cheering Hannity on his description of what a crack addict Hunter Biden suffers was highly offensive and unnecessary. To keep the record straight, yes, nobody is above the law. But everybody is in danger of ...

Don’t ignore warning signs

To the Editor, Everything is in the mix of natural selection. The number of people who put it together will determine man’s fate. Humans must be vigilant — the signs of humans becoming extinct are a possibility. COVID-19 was a head’s up, just a warning sign, from nature’s microscopic demons lurking around in the atmosphere, spreading like wildfire. There is no escape, nowhere to hide when the planet starts to rock and roll with hurricanes, tornadoes and floods that never stop. They are just a warning that the end is near. For the children born today, what is in store for ...

The good old weed eater

To the Editor, Ah The Weed Eater. Or Lawn Sculpter. Or Weed Wacker. Whatever you name it, it is a device that eliminates weeds, and overgrown unwanted grass. And if tilted a certain way, you can edge your lawn. So as I began to use my trusty black and orange handy dandy device, it’s a little dirty. But being stored away for a long period of time, it was time to get started. Yes, I know it’s August, but I’m a late starter. And so was the Weed Eater. Being that this contraption is electric, you definitely need an extension cord. A couple of them. Like 100 feet long...each! ...

25-Year Club event a success

To the Editor, On behalf of the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club committee, we would like to take this time to thank all of the sponsors and workers who helped to make this year’s picnic possible and successful. The picnic was held July 15 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds, and was well-attended by more than 400 members. A big shout out to our sponsors, who gave generously to make this happen: First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union, Tudor’s Biscuit World and Hancock County Savings Bank. Other donors included James White Construction Co., Maxwell Welding, Clayton Engineering, ...

Are you cute?

To the Editor, What must one be to be called “cute”? What can you do to win the admiring glances from members of the opposite sex? Wouldn’t it be nice to hear them say “he’s so cute”? Almost every lady I know gushes over baby pictures. On almost every Facebook account are shown pictures of babies smiling their gummy toothless smiles. “He’s so cute” is the elicited response in practically all cases. In one instance I counted 15 such responses to a photo of an infant child. At early infancy, his appearance may not differ significantly from those of his numberless ...

Protecting the future of energy

To the Editor, Washington’s recent bipartisan Fiscal Responsibility Act included important new energy policies, chief among them a push to finally get the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) up and running. But this essential project faces a new round of pushback despite a mandate from Congress, as outlined in “Capito: Congress ‘loud and clear’ on Mountain Valley Pipeline” (July 14). Some facts to keep in mind: MVP is 94% complete but has been stalled by legal obstacles from pipeline opponents and political opportunists. The 303-mile pipeline would bring natural gas from West ...
