Lessons from Humpty Trumpty

To the Editor, One Fox News pundit wants to start a calamity: World War III. That’s Sean Hannity’s response to Russia’s downing of a U.S. drone. Let’s down one of theirs and see if it happens. Then again, let’s do 100 of theirs. Two nuclear bombs dropped on two cities in Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, by the United States ended World War II. Hancock County’s $2 million mistake

To the Editor, In 2016, the Hancock County Commission offered a nonprofit that was operating the animal shelter $88,000 from the county’s “general account” to continue to operate the shelter for fiscal year 2017. Combined with the $100,000 annual Animal Shelter Excess Levy, the nonprofit would receive a total of $188,000 in taxpayer funds. The nonprofit agreed. However, the commissioners also mandated changes to the shelter operation contract so detrimental to the welfare of the animals, the nonprofit would not sign the modified contract. Stop piling on

To the Editor, I’ve been truly amazed watching everyone pile on Delegate Pat McGeehan for expressing his concerns about the Form Energy project coming to Weirton. He never once said he was against the project. I am appalled by lawmakers, old and new, stating their opposition for his concern about the company and their questionable ties. Why aren’t all lawmakers asking these same questions? Why aren’t they concerned some unestablished company can come to town and pick our pockets? Not like that hasn’t happened before in Weirton. A real train wreck

To the Editor, As you may know, there was recently a slight train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, that poisoned local water supplies, has killed tens of thousands of fish and animals, and sent a noxious cloud of highly acidic fallout across several states and into Canada. Perhaps Norfolk Southern should’ve consulted a chemist or two, before deciding to burn the chemical spill. Local municipalities using the river for water supplies were doing all they can to play it off, pretending there’s no danger, but Steubenville and Weirton were both reportedly considering alternative ...
