Form Energy providing optimism

To the Editor, Thank you for the editorial in the February 15, 2023 paper. It was a perfect call-out of Pat McGeehan, who is doing a terrible job of representing the interests of his constituents, the citizens of the Northern Panhandle, by his outdated and ill-informed views on the emerging technology of energy creation and storage. Thank you for pointing out that we need to look to the future with optimism, supported by science and smart economic development strategies. Form Energy will not only provide jobs, but skilled jobs, and will serve to create the demand for the other ...

All those years ago

To the Editor, 1974. I was a mere 15 years old. A Sophomore in High School. School was tough. But times were sort of easy back then. 8 track players, cassette tapes, real phones in your house. Yes, the basic necessities of that era. Oh, if your family had a console tv/ stereo unit, that was royalty. Some of the popular TV shows in the 70s: All In The Family, Good Times, Little House On The Prairie, Welcome Back Kotter, WKRP in Cincinnati. Oh, let’s not forget the Phil Donahue show, and the Mike Douglas show. Time rolls on. I graduated in 1976, enlisted in the Navy, and ...

Show support for student journalists

To the Editor, The First Amendment protects our democracy and fosters civic engagement free from limitation. However, one group is historically limited from fully exercising their right to free expression– student journalists. West Virginia’s Senate Bill 121, the Student Journalist Press Freedom Protection Act, aims to change the narrative by codifying student press freedoms. This week, and every week, student journalists participate in their right to free speech. In today’s world of increased censorship and limited First Amendment rights for student journalists, passing SB 121 ...

Who will be first?

To the Editor, Nuclear weapons: Nine countries. United States, Russia, France, China, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, India, Israel and North Korea. Global stockpile close to 13,000 weapons. Who is going to do it? To start WWIII? Who will it be to drop the first nuke? China’s Xi? Or North Korea’s Kim Jon Un? Or America shooting down weather balloons like ducks in a pond? Talking nuclear is not like throwing rocks. No matter who goes first, there is nowhere to hide. WWIII will not mimic the Charge of the Light Brigade “All in the valley of death rode the six ...

Progressive left dominates media

To the Editor, “... I have observed (that) every single time liberals try to mock conservatives, they beclown themselves.”—(Facebook user) Robert R. Murphy Very true. This has been a truism at least since the Bunker/Meathead debates of the 1970s. Nearly every time liberal writers purposely try to portray a “stodgy, Stone Age conservative” character as comic relief, as an idiotic, clownish buffoon never to be taken seriously, they end up creating a popular, iconic, resonant character. Archie Bunker (Carroll O’Conner, “All in the Family”), Denny Crane (William ...

PFAS contaminating drinking water

To the Editor, I write to express my concern about the ongoing issue of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) exposure and contamination in drinking water across the United States. Despite the documented dangers associated with PFAS exposure, current standards for PFAS study and regulation by U.S. government entities remain inadequate. A recent study by Ducatman, LaPier, Fuoco et al. (2022) reveals that official health communications from government agencies like the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) downplay the potential risks to affected communities, ...
