Sorry, but no thanks

To the Editor, Recent guest column presenter Mr. Charlie Burd, the executive director of the Gas and Oil Association of West Virginia, gave a stirring account of the great benefits of having gas wells in Weirton. He cited all the reasons why fracking is so great and how it could benefit the city. His article reminded me of a scene from “The Wizard of Oz.” The line, “pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!” came to mind, because two things struck me as very odd. First, he didn’t mention one negative thing about fracking, not one single thing. He said we might ...

Concerns for the future

To the Editor, The Monday night town hall meeting was interesting for several reasons. The dynamics of the council participants appeared to have changed and it seemed the council were genuinely interested in getting outside input concerning the placement of the proposed “public safety building.” I love seeing terminology migrate into euphemisms. This building is going to keep Weirton safer? It sounds more high falutin so does that justify the $10 million price tag? Craig Howell, in his weekend column, asked how the project would be paid for and made note of our current 20-year ...

Time for GOP to fight back

To the Editor, Sen. Rand Paul has asked Biden administration whistleblowers to come forward, citing authority and civil rights overreaches. I doubt many will. Liberal Democrats are among the stupidest creatures alive — blindly loyal hive-minds. For example, energy industry workers vigorously supporting a party openly pledging to put them out of work, and pro-life, Catholic Democrats. Joe Biden-Kamela Harris is probably the least-admired team of corrupt globalist stooges in the entirety of the American political machine. Immoral old Joe meanders embarrassingly through speeches, ...

Leave your guns at home

To the Editor, If one is taught law and order, one will obey law and order. If one has evil in one’s heart, evil will be ther choice of the day. Why would any 17-year-old from Antioch, Illinois, arm himself with an AR15 rifle and travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to confront rioters as a helpful medic and wind up killing two men and wounding one? Paraphrasing a Johnny Cash song, “Don’t take your guns to town” to stop the killing. “A young boy named Kyle grew restless. A boy filled with wanderlust meant no harm. He changed his clothes and shined his boots. And his ...

Thanks for all

To the Editor, As we celebrate our Thanksgiving weekend together with family and friends, let’s take some time to remember the ones who won’t be here this year. The laughter. The stories that were told over and over again. The games that were played. The songs that were sung. The pictures from the past. If we could only turn back time. But time moves on. Just like we do in our lives. It goes so quickly. But just for a few seconds that we could grab those precious moments. Or to just hear the voice of those that are gone. Just...once. Folks, we still have those memories. So ...

Don’t approve SWN application

To the Editor, Irene and I are opposed to SWN Production’s application to place an oil and gas well pad on the Brownlee land behind the Rue21 distribution center in Brooke County. Fracking causes air pollution and unhealthy levels of smog and air contaminants. This pollution can cause eye, nose and throat irritation; respiratory illness; central nervous system damage; birth defects; and cancer. In Pennsylvania, only 12 percent of the wells are checked for safety. The oversized heavy fracking trucks will not only cause congestion in the area but will destroy the roads and any ...
