Keep primary elections open

To the Editor, Some in the Republican Party push to hold a closed primary election. I disagree, and here’s why. The results of the November 2024 elections served as a powerful reminder to every government body in this nation that they work for the individuals they represent. In this moment, there is a rare opportunity for government actions to bring people together, but also a risk of wasting that opportunity. Restoring a government that prioritizes the people over self-interest will inevitably expose and embarrass many politicians—and by extension, their supporters. Embarrassment ...

Was it aliens this time, too?

To the Editor, Who is to blame for the current Weirton water crisis? Is it the city or the residents? Neither. I believe it was an ALIEN! Looking back at the last city-wide water crisis which happened on June 10, 2011. It was an ALIEN to blame. For June 10, 2011, was the release date of a movie called “Super 8”. It was filmed in Weirton. In the final scene the ALIEN launches a spaceship off the city water tower. As the spaceship rises, the water tower explodes leaving the city without water. I believe it is the curse of the ALIEN for this water outage. Looking back at ...

What is art?

To the Editor, For millennia, “art” was recognizable as art. Realistic portraits, landscapes, still-lifes. Beautiful, lifelike sculptures. Amazing, God-given talent. Ability. Recently, a banana duct-taped to a wall was laughably accepted as “art,” auctioned, and sold for $6.2 million. The idiot who bought it ate it. Modern art, it’s now being declared, “has become too abstract for its own good.” No kidding. In the modern era, art is a joke; a con game. “Art” is literally anything the “artist” says it is. What nowadays passes for “art” was long ago ...

Is responsibility too much to ask?

To the Editor, As we know, things like traditional morality, simple common sense and personal responsibility are absolutely loathsome things to leftists, who view them as oppression. In the recent election, as in all elections since 1973, the entire rabid political left made abortion a major point. This is because in 2022, to their towering outrage and depthless resentment, Trump’s Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade’s federal ruling, kicking the issue back to the states to decide — to the states, where it has rightly belonged, forever. Thirteen states, including West ...
