A perspective on climate change

To the Editor, An ignorant man’s perspective on climate change. I have traveled much of this world, the vast majority of it is uninhabited by humans. The industrialized portions are far and few between compared to the vastness of our planet. Having worked in industry and having seen the pollutants generated, which were unbelievable, and the contamination done to these localities, I understand the concerns. What I have noticed is that the greater majority of, at least, heavy pollutants are localized. These, I’ve noticed, have caused microclimate changes, or maybe better, impacted ...

Just a few thoughts

To the Editor, Random thoughts, some serious, some not: Mother Earth is like the universe hitting a trillion-to-one Powerball jackpot. Billions of stars and millions of planets and Earth is the one with life as we know it. At the end of life at any age, do not worry about the after-death. One must take into consideration the consequences of living another six months. Do nothing. The body is shutting down, heaven awaits, with ever-lasting peace. Some say God created man in his image. Some say man created God in our image. But man’s ego goes beyond God’s. All other imaginary ...

Stick to limited government

To the Editor, Mayor Miller did not run on a platform to increase Weirton’s tax revenues. In fact, he promised the first time, if elected, he would eliminate the B&O tax when the sales tax took effect. Obviously, that didn’t happen. Conservatives say limited government is best for the nation’s economy. What they mean is government should stick to providing basic, essential services that everyone needs and let free market forces address the rest of the needs and wants of the population. The Business Development Corporation is a private entity funded essentially through ...

Appreciate the difference makers

To the Editor, As Pat Ford and Alecia Ford ready themselves for new adventures in Kentucky, I want to thank them both for making a huge difference in Weirton. They say that behind every great man there is a great woman… I’d like to think that Pat and Alecia are great side-by-side. He took on revitalizing business and growth in the city, and that has been reported time and again, but she has been an integral force in our community, and I want to let you know about that. I first met Alecia as she joined the Renaissance Committee representing the Top of WV CVB. She was anxious ...

Never forget

To the Editor, As I headed to work the other morning, a thought crossed my mind. 9/11. What started out as a normal day for myself, and others, would change dramatically. I thought back about 18 years ago when I was a security guard at a power plant in Beaver County, Pa. We had three shifts at the plant. Whatever happend on your shift, was passed on to your replacement. Normal day. Myself and a supervisor were manning Gate 16, a delivery goods recieving gate. Nothing spectacular happening. Then about 9:00, a delivery truck approached our gate. “Did you hear whats happening in New ...

Don’t want to be ‘woke’

To the Editor, If you don’t know what “woke” means, listen up: The online Urban Dictionary defines “woke” as an adjective, meaning “alert (or sensitive) to social issues and injustices. Especially racism (and sexism and/or homophobia.)” It’s been revealed that in the upcoming movie, presently titled only “No Time to Die,” James Bond has retired from MI6, and the “007” code designation has passed to a black (and rumor has it, a lesbian) woman. Bond is apparently called out of retirement for one last mission. This will apparently be the last 007 movie featuring ...
