Time to stop crying wolf

To the Editor, When I was a youngster my mother told me a story of the little boy who cried “wolf.” Briefly, it tells of a young lad who knew that all the neighbors would come running to the rescue if a wolf should be threatening the flock of lambs each of them had raised. The boy called out “wolf” and neighbors, armed with pitchforks, shotguns, etc., came to his aid. He thought it so amusing that he did it over and over again. One day a wolf did arrive to threaten the boy and his flock. He cried “wolf” but no one came. His continued cries had left his neighbors indifferent ...

Why are you not seeing and hearing the truth?

To the Editor, I can no longer sit back and not say anything. For too long I have seen our president say lies and the public buys whatever he says, hook, line and sinker. The letter last week from Gail Wickstrom has me shaking my head. Did you not hear what Mueller said in his report. Mr. Barr totally distorted what he said and spread the lie of the great leader was not to be found innocent. If he could, he would have but he then said he could not convict a sitting president of a crime or he would have. Mr. Barr told us what he wanted the public to hear; lies. Mr. Trump did ...

Follow the money

To the Editor, In 2016, the Hancock County Animal Shelter Excess Levy account balance had grown to over $365,000. Many county taxpayers believe the commissioners’ desire to gain access to this money motivated them to not renew the shelter contract with the nonprofit that operated it for the past two decades. The contract required an annual renewal by both parties. In May of 2016, the nonprofit successfully passed a $100,000 annual Excess Levy to financially support operation of the shelter. Less than a month later, June 2016, the commissioners provided a new contract to the ...

Be careful what you wish for

To the Editor, All parties must think progressively, whether Democrat, Republican or independent. It’s the 21st century, not a century of covered wagons — we are going to the moon. There are 330 million people and issues need to be addressed promptly if America is to survive, including health, climate and threat of wars. Trump’s alternative to Obamacare is a cheaper, short-term health insurance plan that doesn’t have to cover people with pre-existing conditions or provide basic benefits like prescription drugs. It’s called survival of the fittest. Young people think ...

Looking for a witch doctor

To the Editor, In an orgy of frustration to remove President Donald Trump from office, Democrats have stopped at nothing to keep costly investigations going. After the $25 million Mueller report found Trump innocent of Russian influence, litigious liberals and a biased media doggedly persist in claiming Trump guilty of obstruction. He must have done something: Maybe he removed the tag from a mattress or box springs. That’s it. Make enough smoke that folks will think there’s a fire when none exists. During the 2016 election were there any people you know who claimed they were ...

Issues not being addressed

To the Editor, It’s happened. Headlines in all the local papers. Church in crisis. So, let me add my humble comments. Big question asked by many. How did Bransfield get away with it? Lay Catholic Voices for Change asked for two new rules demanded by Archbishop Lori’s investigation. The implementation of a two — legible — signature rule for the cashing of checks within the diocese. Do away with the unchecked authority of the clergy within the church. Like any unchecked priest, it starts with “It’s all in the name of Jesus.” All of a sudden, along comes a ...
